Costa Rica chose wildlife over weapons—and made it law.

In a landmark decision, Costa Rica permanently banned sport and trophy hunting across the entire country, turning recreational killing of wild animals into a criminal offense. This was not a temporary ban or a political gesture. It was a binding, enforceable law designed to protect wildlife for generations to come.

The move aligned with Costa Rica’s long-standing environmental vision. With over 25% of its land protected through national parks and reserves, the country already shelters nearly 6% of the planet’s biodiversity, despite covering just a tiny fraction of Earth’s surface. Ending trophy hunting closed a major loophole that threatened fragile ecosystems and vulnerable species.

By removing profit-driven hunting, forests became quieter and safer. Animal populations stabilized. Predator–prey balances improved. Tourism shifted further toward eco-travel, research, and conservation jobs rather than exploitation. Wildlife was valued alive—not as trophies.

Costa Rica’s decision sent a clear global message: real conservation requires firm laws, not half-measures. By prioritizing ecological balance over short-term human pleasure, the country set a powerful precedent—proving that a nation can protect its natural heritage and still thrive.

American now has a non stop flight from Chicago!

American Airlines has launched new nonstop flights from Chicago to Curaçao, adding a fresh U.S. gateway to one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive destinations. The new Saturday service expands American’s existing Curaçao network from Miami and Charlotte, improving access from the Midwest and central United States.

The route makes it easier to reach Willemstad, a colorful, working capital known for its waterfront neighborhoods, floating Queen Emma Bridge, and everyday mix of local life and tourism. Curaçao’s appeal lies in its balance: white-sand beaches sit alongside urban culture, multilingual street life, and a food scene shaped by Afro-Caribbean, Dutch, and Latin influences.
