My dear friend and sculpting mentor James Kagel is fighting cancer and he's graciously allowed me to put together this fundraiser to help him out.

If you're a monster kid, then you worked with Jim over the years or know his work. He's sculpted so many amazing creatures and monsters that horror films would be nowhere today without Jim. His credits include classic films like The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Independence Day, The Abyss, Child’s Play, Altered States, Something Wicked This Way Comes and countless others.

Jim is also a US Navy veteran and was honorably discharged with the rank of Petty Officer, Second Class serving from 1969 to 1973, so be sure to thank him for his service by making a donation.

Please share and I hope you can help our pal out in his time of need!

Feast your eyes on painter Nick Runge’s magnificent “The Lesson” for the “Pickman’s Model” film!!!

As described by Lovecraft himself, “The Lesson” is one of Pickman’s masterpieces that brings a scream to the lips of all who see this blasphemy on the canvas. The painting is 24” by 36” and completely painted by Nick’s expert hand in oil. No AI here, that’s for sure!

Nick is painting five original oil paintings for the film and all are sure to set the bar high for Lovecraftian cinema.

Some folks may ask why I choose to show these paintings before the film is released. Making a film is sometimes an incredibly slow process and I want each of my valued Kickstarter backers to know that even before we roll film on set, painstaking measures are being taken in the months leading up to principal photography that everything such as paintings, puppets and creature effects are top of the line. Ditto on locations, casting the right actors and hiring the right crew all take time to do it right.

As always, I truly appreciate your patience but more importantly, your trust and confidence in me to get the job done and done RIGHT.

C’thulhu f’tagn,
Bry

Lovecraft director Richard Stanley (The Colour Out Of Space) records his dialogue as the legendary witch hunter Cotton Mather!!!

My dear pal Richard Stanley was in Madrid at a fantasy film festival recently and my wonderful friend and project supporter Enrique Dueñas (along with expert sound engineer Adan Latonda! ) sequestered Richard in an undisclosed location to record his part for “Pickman’s Model”.

While I’ll keep the recordings under wraps until the film is released, I can only say that Richard completely captured the invective tone of Mather in one of the most harrowing scenes of the film. To say that his performance will set the bar high for villainy is an understatement.

More updates to come!!!!

Way back Wednesday: On the set of “Tales from the Darkside” in 1984. I created all the makeup FX on all four seasons shot in LA. There was never enough time or money to do a decent job but I had the time of my life learning about filmmaking. These shots are from the “I’ll Give You a Million”, The Last Car” and “The Impressionist” episodes. I was 21 years old and it seems like another life ago now….

Sometimes I absolutely can’t believe just how lucky I am to be working with my friends who are all such amazing artists! My dear friend Paul Komoda finished the 24 inch tall, ghoul puppet sculpture for my film “Pickmans Model“ and we took it over to Quantum Effects where it will be molded in many sections by the talented hands of my dear friend Andy Chavez with an able assist by his super wife Kayla Chavez! This is the exciting part of bringing Lovecraft’s vision to life; no CGI, just good old practical effects carefully shot with puppets, miniatures, staccato paced editing and great lighting. It is absolutely possible to do it like our filmmaking pioneers did it and create magic in the process! What a lucky guy I am! ❤️

Here is the latest of several paintings created by artist Nick Runge for the film!!!

This is a 20" by 24" oil painting of Pickman's self-portrait featuring actor Stephen Blackehart as Pickman himself in his period wardrobe.

Hope you all approve. We're quite lucky to be working with such a magnificent artist who will bring Lovecraft's nightmarish vision to life!

Here’s a sneak preview of ’s magnificent sculpture for the ghoul in the “Pickmans Model “ film.

We’re using a combination of a 20 inch puppet, 1/2 scale head and hands as well as a few other tricks up our sleeve to make Lovecraft’s nightmare vision come to life!

Principal actors cast in Pickman’s Model!!!

At last, the search is over! Rehearsals began last week with the three lead players for H.P. Lovecraft’s “Pickman’s Model”!
Stephen Blackehart , Christian Skinner .cjs and Noah Wagner Wagner will play Richard Upton Pickman, Elliott Thurber and Detective Malone, respectively.
“All are veteran stage and screen actors” says director Bryan Moore.

“I had known Stephen and Noah’s work from the HPLHS’ excellent films “The Call of C’thulhu” and “The Whisperer in Darkness” and had seen Noah in many plays over the years. Christian was a pal of Noah’s as they had been in several stage productions together at the Long Beach Playhouse here in California. I went to see Christian in a terrific play that he was producing (Certain Death and Other Considerations) and he was just great. Stephen and Noah were kind enough to read with him and we all knew immediately that he was absolutely the right guy to play Thurber. I had felt that Stephen was a scene stealer in “The Whisperer in Darkness” and could bring a cultured and refined persona to play Pickman. Ditto on Noah Wagner, who has a gravitas and hard-hitting vibe that brings Detective Malone to life.”

I feel extraordinarily lucky to be working with these incredible performers. I think even Lovecraft himself would approve!” concludes Moore.
“Pickman’s Model” begins shooting in 2024.
