BREAKING NEWS ON WNC WILDFIRES

Its been a day of rapid developments all across Western North Carolina as we now have 98 active fires burning....5 of those are considered severe. Governor Josh Stein declared a State of Emergency earlier in the day saying State Emergency Response Teams are on the ground helping out effected counties. We have learned that fire fighters from all around the country are on their way to Western North Carolina to assist in the efforts. Some of those extra teams are already in place.

Just some of those fires burning currently include The Black Cove Fire and the Deep Woods Fire in Polk County, The Jackson County fire in the Kitchen Branch Road area has reached 50 acres, in Haywood The Rattlesnake Branch Fire has reached 175 acres and is 0% contained

The Buncombe County fire is now at 80 acres and is still 0% contained as of the 7:00 update from Leicester fire officials.

Evacuations were also upgraded in several areas today as well, most notably in that Black Cove Complex Fire in Polk County. County officials said the area between 2456-6159 Holbert Cove Road - including Coyote Ridge, Cozy Cove Lane, Echo Lane, Glen Echo Circle, Sam's Gap Lane, Scout Camp Road, and Who Drive - has been elevated to a Level 3 - GO (Red). Residents in those areas were asked to evacuate immediately using designated routes.

I was out in Swannanoa today meeting up with the guys of Savage Freedoms Relief Operations, they're in charge of the Heli-Port and all the Helicopter Operations at the Harley Davidson Shop. VERY VERY impressive. They're still finding people who haven't had any contact since the storm! They're also switching gears to more heating material, fuel, and well building. Check out their FB and Insta and see this operation and what supplies they need. GREAT GROUP that's working around the clock for US...Thank You to each and every one of you!

We will connect you with volunteers from local relief organizations who may be able to assist with: Muck Out, Trees, Tarp, Debris. All services are free, but service is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming need. Volunteers work free of charge and provide the tools and equipment necessary to complete the work.
