Guess what? Against all odds, I actually got my money back! 🎉 Turns out this barn saga had a happy ending (I was just as shocked as you are). 🤯

If you’ve been following along, you know it’s been a rollercoaster of red flags, sketchy phone calls, and a whole lot of learning. I cannot believe I managed to claw my way back from this $9K barn disaster. Sadly the more we have gotten into horses the more we have learned this industry is FULL of scammers. People drug their crazy horses to sell them, people steal images of real horses from real people on Facebook and then try to get you to put a deposit down to come see the horse in person then they disappear with your deposit.

If you’ve ever beaten the odds on a bad deal let me know what happened.

Reliving that painful moment when the realization hits me that I had just gotten scammed was such a gut-punch moment. I am thankful I had enough sense to screen record everything because he was cleaning it as I was screen recording. He changed his business name on facebook and set it to private and deleted all his location and contact information from google and his website. I did however still have his contact info on my invoices.

What a mess, makes me ill thinking about this again. I cannot believe there are people out there like this.

Episode 3: Would you believe me if I confessed to you I actually thanked the guy for calling me back at one point because, "oh this sounds so crazy but I was starting to think this might be a scam". 🤦‍♂️

Pro tip: if you have to thank someone for proving they’re not a criminal, it’s probably not going well. 😂 Trust your gut I guess...

Tell me I’m not alone in this—who else has trusted the untrustworthy?

Episode 2: See how I ignore standard business practices of putting down a deposit down and just pay the full 9K to a stranger in record time? Not very demure, not very cutesy.... 🤦‍♂️ Also Spoiler Alert: It involved a lot of red flags I chose to gracefully ignore. 🚩🙃

Turns out I was almost the proud owner of absolutely nothing after getting scammed out of 9K trying to buy a horse barn off Facebook Marketplace. Yes, a BARN. 🤦‍♂️ I thought I was smarter than this...
But hey, maybe this whole series can be a lesson in 'how not to make the same mistake I did.' 🤷‍♂️
So if you want to feel better about your life choices or just see how I managed to lose that much money while simultaneously ignoring one red flag after another ... hit follow, grab some popcorn, and come back tomorrow for the next episode.
