SPONSORED POST (via Only In Ajo): In the early light of the desert, every shadow, songbird and saguaro carries a story. From March 9–12, 2026, those stories come together in Ajo, Arizona, for the 9th Tri-National Sonoran Desert Symposium — a gathering rooted in shared landscapes and deep relationships with place.

Created by representatives from the Tohono O’odham Nation, Mexico and the United States, the Symposium invites conversations across borders and generations. Explore how the Sonoran Desert sustains life, shapes culture, and inspires stewardship. Stay at the Sonoran Desert Inn and Conference Center, wander Ajo’s murals and historic plaza, and visit nearby Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

Come listen. Come learn. Be part of the story. Learn more at onlyinajo.com.

One of Arizona Highways' most beloved covers was published in January 1942, and it featured a photo of Hosteen Cly Bit-sui, a Navajo girl who lived in Monument Valley, and her sheep. "Her charming portrait is the work of Joseph Miller, whose works have graced these pages many times these past few years," Editor Raymond Carlson wrote.
