We want to congratulate all members of the WCC community on their achievements this semester, no matter how great or small. We will miss our team members who are graduating, but we're excited to see what they do next!

The Washtenaw Voice won four awards from the Michigan Press Association (MPA) for their work from the 2023-2024 school year.

Of the four awards received, the Voice took home two first places in their division: Caleb Henderson for Best Writer and Jada Hauser for Non-Inside Page Design “Did someone say cookies?”

The Voice was also honored with second and third place awards.

Lily Cole won second place for Best Feature Story, “How jazz shaped Black culture.” Henderson was awarded third place in the Best Column, Review, or Blog, Sports category for “State of Michigan sees historic month.”

The Trump Administration abruptly reversed the cancellation of over 1,500 student visas on Friday, April 25.

Ever since the Trump administration ended restrictions on immigration arrests at sensitive locations such as schools and churches at the beginning of 2025, its focus on mass deportations and border security has emerged as a concerning topic for international students in educational institutions across the country.

Devin Streur, WCC’s international student advisor, said that “a lot of them (international students) are fearful of going home for the summer,” and “It’s more so creating a sense of fear and uncertainty for them and just not wanting to do anything that’s going to draw attention to them or jeopardize their status in any way.”

The WCC Esports team has won a Division 5 national championship. This is the first time in Esports history that the WCC team has won nationals for their “Overwatch 2” and “Counter-Strike 2” teams.

“Overwatch” is a first-person shooter game played in teams of five or six people. In this case, the WCC “Overwatch 2” competitive team comprises six people: Chris Zachow, Nathan Fleck, Benjamin Bower, Casper Satwicz, Matthew McKinney and Andrew Schmaltz.

“Counter-Strike” is also a first-person shooter game; however, unlike “Overwatch”, the graphics are more realistic, giving players more accessory options. The WCC “Counter-Strike 2” competitive team comprises Kush Erdenebat, Sawyer Clark, Aiden Larsen, Quinn Campbell, Munkhdul Khosbayar and Chloe Johnson.

This is the first time in Esports history that the competitive teams have won national titles, and both the “Counter-Strike” and “Overwatch” teams won the NECC-National Esports Collegiate Conference championship.
