As part of the EU’s support in combating Gender-Based Violence, the second leg of the EU Bus Tour is focused on addressing SGBV issues in support of the 16 days of activities. At Njala University, students are taking a stand and fighting SGBV!

The met a formidable group of inspiring young people—proudly supported by the German Embassy Freetown, Sierra Leone, through SEND - Sierra Leone—who are demanding fundamental change.

These students are pioneering new reporting and support mechanisms to tackle Sexual & Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). This is not just a project; it is a movement aimed at ensuring that every learner can study, thrive, and succeed in an environment that is safe and free from fear.

When students rise to protect their peers and build supportive systems, the entire learning community becomes stronger.

EU Ambassador and German Embassy Cooperation Head Visit Nutrition Project in Kenema

As part of the ongoing EU Bus Tour, the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, conducted a project-site visit in Kenema to review progress on a German-funded community nutrition initiative. He was accompanied by Johannes Behrens, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy in Sierra Leone, underscoring the strong partnership between the EU and Germany in supporting development efforts across the country.

The visit focused on the Nutrition Smart Community Project, located in Gbojema, Kenema District, and implemented by the local organisation MOPADA. The project aims to strengthen nutrition practices, enhance food security, and promote healthier living among rural households.

Ambassador Jankowski and Mr. Behrens engaged with project staff, community leaders, and beneficiaries to observe how the initiative is improving nutrition outcomes for children, women, and vulnerable groups. Both officials commended MOPADA’s community-led approach and highlighted the importance of coordinated international support for improving health and resilience in rural communities.

The stop in Kenema forms part of the wider EU Bus Tour 2025, which showcases ongoing development partnerships and promotes the EU’s commitment to community empowerment, sustainable development, and improved living standards across Sierra Leone.
