PUBLIC NOTICE
City of Upper Sandusky
Water Quality Update – May 28, 2025

On May 27th, City officials met with Fontus Blue, our water quality consulting partner, to review progress and plan next steps. With their assistance, the City has partnered with Eurofins Eaton Analytical (EEA), a certified laboratory in South Bend, Indiana, that specializes in drinking water analysis. EEA is nationally accredited and approved under the Safe Drinking Water Act to test for a wide range of potential contaminants.

EEA will conduct targeted testing for compounds such as MIB and geosmin—naturally occurring substances that can cause earthy or musty tastes and odors in water. While we are not yet certain these are the cause of current concerns, they are the next focus of our investigation.

The City has commenced this additional testing as part of our continued efforts to maintain high water quality. Alongside this testing, we are actively exploring enhanced treatment options and technologies that could reduce or eliminate these compounds and other potential causes in the future, helping to prevent taste or odor issues before they arise.

Testing continues to confirm that the City’s water is safe to drink, fully complies with all Ohio EPA regulations, and that the taste and odor issues reported do not pose any health risks.

While we will continue to share updates on social media and our website, we strongly encourage all residents to attend the City’s Service Committee meetings. These meetings are the best opportunity to voice your concerns and directly connect with city officials. Your participation ensures the City hears your voice and can respond effectively.

The Service Committee meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 5:30 PM in the Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 119 N. Seventh Street.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEWyandot Chamber Takes Action to Support Local Businesses During Water Crisis

Upper Sandusky, OH – May 16, 2025 — As Upper Sandusky continues to face ongoing water quality issues, the Wyandot Chamber of Commerce is stepping up to provide real, practical support to local businesses impacted by the crisis.
In a proactive move, the Chamber has officially partnered with Hempy Water to offer free water analysis and assessment of equipment and discounted services thereafter, tailored to the unique needs of businesses dealing with the current water situation. Through this partnership, Chamber members will have access to both large- and small-scale water filtration system options to help ensure water used in food preparation or daily operations meets a higher quality standard.
In addition, Hempy Water will provide water delivery at discounted rates for businesses who need a more immediate solution for cooking, drinking, or general use. This offering is especially beneficial for those who have been regularly transporting water themselves—saving valuable time and effort.
“This isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution,” said Brittney Walton, Executive Director of the Wyandot Chamber. “It’s about giving our businesses options based on their greatest need—whether that’s improving in-house water quality or ensuring access to clean water in the short term. While these services aren’t all free, they are meaningful, cost-reduced solutions we’ve worked hard to coordinate on behalf of our members.”
Beyond these services, the Chamber is actively exploring grant opportunities and financial assistance programs to help provide additional relief for businesses experiencing hardship due to the water issues. These efforts are ongoing as the Wyandot Chamber continues advocating for the small businesses that serve as the backbone of the local economy.
The Wyandot Chamber encourages affected business owners to reach out directly for more information and support. Updates will be shared regularly through official Chamber channels as solutions continue to evolve.

Clarification from the Chamber:

We want to take a moment to acknowledge that while the Chamber’s primary role is to advocate for our local businesses, we also deeply care about our residents and community as a whole. Our recent efforts with Hempy Water have been focused on helping businesses remain operational during the ongoing water issues—something that benefits the entire local economy.

We absolutely recognize how this issue affects every household in Upper Sandusky. While our first steps have been directed at supporting the business community, we are actively looking for ways to collaborate or assist in broader solutions that benefit all residents.

Thank you for your patience, and please know your voices matter to us.
