Tom Scott, long time reader of the Ford County Chronicle and Eyewitness to History, dropped in to say hello. He has been reading remotely since 2020. It was good to see him in person. Hopefully, some other remote readers will do the same.

The newly formed Advisory Committee for IRR met last week. Members are Richard Adams from SAIL in Decatur, DeDe Adams, a listener since 2006, Barb Vanderventer and Barb Ridenour, readers for IRR, Kathie Spegal and Kim Kranich.

We were able to craft a statement of purpose that reads as follows:

Illinois Radio Reader enriches the community through lifelong learning and discovery by broadcasting audio readings of local news, magazines and other programming to individuals who have visual, physical, learning or language challenges to reading normal print.

DeDe reported that she " loves listening because the volunteers read clearly and sound like they want to read. It means a lot to me." She enjoys the Decatur Tribune and would like to hear more recipes.

Spring is finally here and we have several new volunteer readers. Some I have never met in person because they are not local but they keep recording from afar. Some are closer but they prefer to read from home. I hope we can have a volunteer appreciation event this summer. This time we won't have to meet in the parking lot!

AS the winter holidays are around the corner, I want to acknowledge the gifts that each reader gives IRR every day. The electronic files arrive every morning and I get to open them up and present them to our listeners. What a nice way to start each day. Enjoy this friend of mine who visited the back yard during a snowstorm. Stay well and safe and enjoy the holidays.
