*** I Have Some BIG NEWS to Share!!! ***

[7:09 PM May 17, 2022]

To my entire Weather Community:

On April 5, 2019, I founded Prince Weather Center with the vision to protect life and property in western and central Ohio from atmospheric phenomena and to also share my passion of meteorology with the community. Meteorology has been and will always be my passion. Back in 2019, I had no clue that our weather community was going to grow into the thousands! Each day, I forecasted and shared my knowledge of the weather, wrote some of the “geekiest” weather discussions you will find on Facebook, and helped save some lives as well. While you all may think that you did not have a monumental impact to me, that is far from the truth. With your continued support, you pushed me to become a better meteorologist and to keep sharing my passion. Every single one of you have shaped me to become the meteorologist I have dreamed to be, and every single one of you have prepared me to embark upon my next chapter in my life!

It is with the utmost honor and privilege to announce that I have accepted the Weekend Meteorologist/Reporter position at WLIO-TV Your Hometown Stations in Lima, Ohio! Yes, your personal Facebook meteorologist will officially become a TV Meteorologist!!! I could not be any happier to begin my meteorology and broadcast career in an area that I hold very close to my heart, and some of you will see me on your television sets in the near future! I will provide regular weather forecasts during the Weekend newscasts. I will also come in at any time, day or night, to cover significant and hazardous weather situations with my fellow team members or whenever I am needed! Also, you will find me covering some stories across the Lima area, and you may even see me out in the community from time-to-time covering those stories! This is truly an exhilarating time of my life, and I am extremely excited to share this wonderful news!

I will be starting my new job very soon! As a result, I will transition my focus from Prince Weather Center to my duties with WLIO-TV as a Meteorologist and Reporter. However, this is, by no means, a goodbye! I will not be moving that far away, and many of the counties I have provided weather coverage on Prince Weather Center will be able to see me on their television sets! Also, I will be creating a new page associated with my new job so that ANYONE can follow me! I will always be your personal meteorologist.

I would absolutely love to see all of you before I depart for Lima this Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 PM for the “Meet Your Hometown Meteorologist” event at the Champaign County Library!

Much Love,
Conner

There is a very large spread in dew points across the state of Ohio right now! Extreme northeastern Ohio has dew points as low as 33 degrees while extreme southwestern Ohio has dew points as high as 63 degrees. You can also see the higher dew points across Indiana has led to the development of low-level cumulus clouds as daytime heating has created some low-level buoyancy. However, the presence of a very strong upper-level ridge with practically zero forcing (there are not any fronts, boundaries, gust fronts, drylines, outflows, or troughs nearby to lift air parcels) and convective inhibition (a layer of air that does not permit vertical motion for cloud development) will not permit these cumulus clouds to become cumulonimbus clouds (thunderstorms). As a result, we have a sunny day with summerlike weather!

Does it get better than this?!?!? Absolutely a beautiful day across the region today!

*** True Taste of Summer for Tuesday! ***

[8:51 PM May 9, 2022]

The summer lovers will absolutely love this forecast! The omega block will be firmly in place with Ohio located under the upper-level ridge. Thus, Tuesday will be a summerlike day! Temperatures will start out in the upper 50s to right around 60 degrees. With a good deal of sunshine with some clouds nearby, expect temperatures to climb into the middle 80s by the end of the day. Temperatures will remain quite warm around sunset with upper 70s expected.

Rinse and repeat weather will occur for Wednesday through Friday before wetter weather arrives by the weekend. Enjoy!

*** Omega Block Brings True Summer Weather This Week! ***

[5:16 PM May 8, 2022]

After multiple days of very rainy weather, we are going to flip the switch big time, and we can thank the "Omega Block" for this monumental switch! For the meteorological geeks, an "Omega Block" is when the jet stream pattern resembles the greek letter omega. The outer regions of the omega block have upper-level troughs or upper-level lows with the inner region having an upper-level ridge or an upper-level high. Where will Ohio fall in the omega block? Ohio will actually be smackdab in the middle of the omega block; thus, we will be under the upper-level ridge area of the block. As a result, temperatures are going to soar to true summerlike readings! Starting Tuesday, widespread lower-to-upper 80s will be the rule with plenty of sunshine!

The only area I have slightly reduced confidence is the humidity. A few models do bring high levels of humidity into the region, but the general consensus is to keep this region of humidity just off to our west from Indiana westward. As a result, we may have warm weather with low humidity instead of a hot and humid air mass.

Nevertheless, it will be a BEAUTIFUL weather week! Get out there and enjoy it!

*** Observed Rainfall Totals from the Past 2 Days ***

[5:19 PM May 7, 2022]

Wowzas! I need a break from the rain! Take a look at some of the reported rainfall totals from the past 2 days (May 5-6). Nearly every county reported at least 1" of rain; however, many areas recorded 2-3" of rain with a few areas exceeding 3" of rainfall! Some of this rain fell in a short amount of time and prompted several Flash Flood Warnings with resultant flash flooding.

I do have some wonderful news! It appears that a pronounced dry stretch of weather will be in the making. As a matter of fact, every single day starting today through the end of next week will very likely remain dry. The next real chance of rain may not occur until next Saturday (May 14) or Sunday (May 15). Thus, this will be a great time for those involved in agriculture and horticulture interest to begin planting this week as (1) temperatures will be plenty warm, and (2) the forecast calls for dry weather!

*** Messy Weather for Friday ***

[9:48 PM May 5, 2022]

Friday will not be a beautiful day across western and central Ohio as a rather messy area of low-pressure moves through the region.

The day will start off with a round of heavy rain early in the morning. I do expect the rain to lessen in coverage and intensity for a few hours after 8 AM as forcing weakens a bit. However, we are not done with the rain. During this time, an occluded front will begin its approach toward the region. Additionally, upper-level support will restrengthen as well. Thus, chances of showers will increase again as well go through the afternoon hours.

One thing to monitor is the possibility for a couple of severe thunderstorms for areas along/south of I-70. Depending on how far north the occluded front progresses, a low-end severe weather risk may creep into southern Ohio and perhaps as far north as I-70. There is some wind shear and ample surface vorticity noted in the forecast soundings for southern Ohio. Additionally, a pocket of cold air aloft will help to destabilize this region a bit. Thus, a one or two severe thunderstorms could develop across southern Ohio. The threat of severe weather will diminish greatly north of the occluded front.

Regardless of severe potential, the entire region could see some heavy rainfall tomorrow. Any thunderstorms during the afternoon hours will diminish and transition to stratiform rain Friday evening. Models do indicate the potential for a band of heavy rain to develop tomorrow evening and last into the overnight hours. This band could be slow moving, but vertical cross sections show a deeply saturated atmosphere will rising vertical motions in this band. I will fine tune this as we get closer.
