The University of Illinois School of Music’s second annual New Musical Festival is almost here! Running October 18-20, the festival welcomes composers Shulamit Ran and Arlene Sierra for a series of concerts at Smith Memorial Hall and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

Today is Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steve Reich's 90th birthday! A pioneer of the minimalist movement in the 1960s, his influence can be felt across genres, from contemporary classical music to electronic dance music and film scores. Tune into Illinois Classical this Saturday at noon for “James Conlon’s Farewell Concert” on Afternoon at the Opera. After 20 years as the LA Opera’s Music Director, James Conlon retired from his position at the end of the 2025/26 season. His farewell celebration featured some of the company’s biggest stars and audience favorites. Saturday’s broadcast of will feature a selection of the music from his farewell concert.
