Over the years, we've seen tapes that have survived some pretty unusual conditions. This week, we opened a tape that had insect debris tangled in the tape path, causing it to break.

The good news? Damage doesn't always mean your memories are gone forever. Many tapes can be repaired, cleaned, or salvaged enough to recover what's on them.

Not too many people can say their wedding was shot on Betacam SP in the early ’90s. 🎥💍

Fortunately for this customer, it helped to have an uncle with professional broadcast equipment and the know-how to use it. What was once captured on a format used by television stations is now being preserved digitally so future generations can enjoy it too.

At least their uncle didn’t only show up for the free cake. 😄

A repeat customer just dropped off another piece of family history — this time, his in-laws' collection of audio cassettes, microcassettes, miniCDs, and photo albums. We previously preserved over 4,500 photos and 750 negatives from his own family.

We’re transferring a mini cassette—and yes, people often confuse these with microcassettes.

Here’s the quick difference: Mini cassettes have a slightly bigger shell and were commonly used in dictation machines, while microcassettes became more popular in handheld voice recorders.

Fun fact: Philips and Norelco were the only manufacturers of the mini cassette format—which is why you’ll usually see one of those names on them.
