I've been pondering this concept for a while now, but current circumstances have inspired me to bring it to life. There are a variety of creative personalities in the local area building a following online that you've probably never heard of.

As the world increasingly moves toward digital first, it's never been easier to build a community on the Internet, yet an online following doesn’t necessarily correlate to a local following. I became obsessed with this idea of mapping the digital content landscape to a physical proximity. While the Internet allows us to interact meaningfully with anyone in the world, there is still power in being able to connect with somebody close to home. Even if we're not communicating face to face, proximity provides context.

I wanted this to exist outside the walls and complexities of the fragmented individual social networks. A single place on the web to discover things that you might be interested in close to home. Free of negative comments, politics, and 34 photos of your fifth cousin. We don't need another mapping service to get directions to a restaurant. We don't need another platform to see the same stream of automated ads. We could use some simplicity and organization.

This directory is for the content creators, artists, products, writers, designers, volunteer efforts, clothing brands, online boutiques, educators, coaches, podcasters, pop up shops, trainers, influencers, and social movements right in our backyard. Those who are masters of their craft or subject, but don't have the resources needed to grow a following through traditional means. Essentially any creator, product, or service that isn't tied to a physical street address. The scope of this directory is dynamic and will change over time. Please feel free to reach out with suggestions for new categories. We believe in abundance > scarcity.

There are so many amazing people, products, services, and resources available close to home. Our hope is that Upstate Vuew becomes the gateway to finding creative people and causes in the local area that otherwise would've went unnoticed.
