CDV - 10th Massachusetts Infantry - Capt. Joseph K. Newell, photo by Brady - Washington, D.C. Newell enlisted June 21, 1861 at Springfield, MA as a 1st Lieut. and promoted to Captain on Nov. 6, 1861. He was 'dismissed' on Nov. 25, 1862. According to the regimental that Newell himself was elected to write in 1875, he handed in his resignation when Dexter F. Parker was commissioned to be Major of the regiment (10 other officers also resigned due to the same reason). They were all arrested, tried & dismissed from service on grounds of alleged Conspiracy and Sedition even though handing in their resignations. While in the tenth, the regiment was engaged in the battles of Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Savage Station, and though not listed in the data base, he writes that he was wounded slightly in the side at Seven Pines. Image is a little light on contrast and trimmed slightly along the bottom. It has a period ink inscription below his image "Yours Etc., / Joseph K. Newell / Capt. 10th Mass Infy". $ 160. (includes postage)

GAR Photo Gettysburg - Knapp's Battery, 28th Pa & 147th Pa Infantry Reunion Photo at Gettysburg. I believe this may be for a reunion in 1914 (was able to pull off a partial date from one of the Veteran's badges). In the photo, very lightly is the inscription "Reunion of / Knapp's Bat'y - 28 & 147 Reg's P.V. / Gettysburg". Photo was taken by a Lancaster, Pa photographer. Approx. 7-7/8" x 9-7/8" (mount). Missing lower right corner.

An early, pre-patent Richard's Eating Utensil Kit. Richard's was awarded the patent for this innovation on July 23, 1861 and once having that patent adorned both pieces with his name and patent date. Before patents were awarded the makers would place just a 'Patent Applied For' on the item. That's what this set has, making it an extremely early Richard's made piece. They would interlock as shown to keep the pieces together. Both pieces are deep gray with the spoon having a few spots of 'crustiness' on the underside of the bowl. This is a scarce soldier's item. $445. (includes postage)

Relics you rarely see and I feel that shows the urgency of War. These three items are all .58 cal. three ring bullets that somehow got fouled in the rifles and had to be extracted with ball pullers. The fact that they are still intact shows that the soldier was more interested in getting another bullet into the gun than he was to take the time and remove the puller. They are offered separately with the information as follows - bullets shown left to right:
Left - Recovered at Petersburg battlefield area $130. 'ON HOLD' (includes postage)
Center - Recovery sight unknown $80. 'ON HOLD' (includes postage)
Right - Recovered at Cold Harbor battlefield area $130. 'ON HOLD' (includes postage)

Today, again we have two images:
a) CDV of Brig. General Robert Anderson by D. Appleton & Co. and Entered According to Act of Congress in 1861. Anderson, of course was in charge of Fort Sumter during the bombardment that began the four years of conflict.
$165. (Postage & Ins. Included)
b) Tintype of two cigar smoking soldiers - perhaps drummer boys as the one on the left looks to be holding a drumstick, in 4 button sack coats, seated with a flag draped in the backround and each has ci**rs sticking out of their mouths. This is an uncased 1/4 plate that has been trimmed on the sides but will still frame well in a 1/4 plate case mat. It does have condition issues with some chips, a few bubbles and bends. Kind of hard to tell how many stars on the flag without perhaps one more visible row of stars.
$275. (Postage & Ins. Included)
