More than 40 Texas lawmakers are urging state regulators to delay a massive transmission line project.
The Bell County East to Big Hill 765K transmission line project would stretch over 200 miles across central and west Texas, crossing private property and running near historical landmarks and state parks, according to filings and lawmakers involved in the effort.
Supporters say the project is critical in keeping up with Texas' growing demand for electricity, particularly as population growth and rapidly developing data centers place increasing strain on the grid. Critics, however, argue that a more "thoughtful and deliberate” approach is needed to produce reliable power.
