"Another reason we may see more workplace attacks is that potential perpetrators, who've likely been in isolation over the last year, have had time to plan, Schildkraut notes. 'One of the things that we know about shooters, especially those who target schools or other specific public spaces, is that they don't usually wake up and snap.'"

Although they're still a statistical anomaly, one explanation for the latest uptick in killings is that with the COVID-19 pandemic, perpetrators have had time to plan their attacks, one expert says.

Weary of losing neighbors and patients to gunfire, St. Louis trauma surgeon Laurie Punch has a message: Gun violence is contagious, but so is healing. Doctors who teach can be part of the solution.

Some 2,501 Americans gave their lives on D-Day, according to historic estimates. Another 1,913 soldiers from other Allied countries also died, bringing the total death toll from the immediate invasion to 4,414.

From January 1, 2019, we blew through that final number in April for the number of Americans killed with a gun.

For 75 years, we have commemorated the brave souls who died on Normandy beaches to protect freedom, and have sought to avoid such a tragedy ever again. Here we are, letting the gun-related deaths from first quarter of 2019 repeat themselves all over again...and again...and again...

The suspect also has a sound suppressor, the police chief said, along with extended magazines that the suspect reloaded during the shooting."

Eleven of the 12 victims were city employees; one was a contractor. "They leave a void that we will never be able to fill," City Manager Dave Hansen said Saturday.
