DAILY STIR 2-2-22 "WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ROE V. WADE PART 2"

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is…not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Yesterday we set the stage for today with the knowledge that the” Roe” of Roe v. Wade is a woman whose real name is Norma McCorvey. She gave her life to Jesus Christ and renounced her former lifestyle and occupation. McCorvey became an outspoken advocate for life. Such things happen when one meets Jesus!
This introduction serves to remind us of things going on in our country today. For example, in Georgia’s state legislature recently, great debate waged over a law called “The Heartbeat Bill”. On the national scene, we see other states like New York passing legislation that kills babies after they are born. A year or so ago movie titled “Unplanned” hit the screens. It is the story of a woman who removes the curtain on what happens in the abortion industry. Social Media found a way – inadvertently, they claim – to shut down the promotion of the movie. There can be no doubt that our nation has bought into the lie of abortion. So many people worship at the altar of the false god of "choice". Ironically, the United States is joined only by North Korea and China in perpetuating the most liberal abortion laws in the world.

We can see what happens when a society abandons God and His truth: People would know God, but not honor Him as God or give thanks. Such a society is destined to become darkened. Our society has indeed been given over to lusts and impurity, degrading passions and a depraved mind (Romans 1:24-26). Many in our supposed Christian nation are quick to condemn Adolf Hi**er for murdering six million Jews but celebrate Cecile Richards (the former president of Planned Parenthood and daughter of former Texas governor Ann Richards) who proudly defended the murder of 60 million babies. We are no different from nations that God destroyed for worshipping and serving the false god Molech, which required the death of babies on its altars.
Only God knows how long He will withhold judgment on our nation. But the day of His wrath will certainly come if our nation persists in its stubborn rebellion against His Word.

Romans 2:5 says, "...because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God."

Whether Norma McCorvey or the subject of the movie “Unplanned” or someone like me, God has seen fit to allow us the time and opportunity to turn our lives around for the present and for eternity. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Thankful for His Grace,

DAILY STIR 2-1-22 "WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ROE V. WADE"

John 1:4-5 Jesus — "the Light of men [that] shines in the darkness".
The "Wade" in the original case refers to Henry Wade, the District Attorney of Dallas County, Texas. He and his legal team actively sought a pregnant young woman to be the subject of their legal battle. They found her in Norma McCorvey — aka "Jane Roe."

McCorvey was not what legal scholars would describe as a sympathetic litigant. The product of a troubled and sometimes violent childhood, she was an abrasive, alcoholic drug user who was disowned by her own family. She already had two children by different men, and she had signed over both children for adoption. Pregnant for a third time and divorced at age 22, she sought an illegal abortion but found that all abortion clinics had been shut down by the authorities.

McCorvey connected with a team of pro-abortion lawyers (headed by the daughter of a mainline minister) who realized that she could become the "victim" they had been looking for. When her request for a legal abortion was denied due to lack of credibility, they ran her case for the next three years all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ironically, McCorvey never appeared in court and her third baby was born and given up for adoption. She later testified that the team of feminist lawyers never made an effort to help her after they secured her "Jane Roe" signature.

In the years that followed, Norma McCorvey became a high priestess of the same false religion that had used her and spit her out. She helped lure in young women to the Dallas abortion clinic where she worked for minimum wage and even comforted them with words she knew to be lies. For a season, Norma basked in the notoriety. Her pro-abortion attitude and ungodly lifestyle would have declared her to be reprobate. But that is not the end of her story.

One experience that caused her to reject the lie of abortion was seeing a baby on a modern ultrasound. No longer could she fool herself and others into believing the lie that a fetus is merely a clump of cells. What God miraculously knits together in each mother's womb is fully human — from conception to birth.

Another experience occurred during her tenure as a committed le***an and abortionist. Pro-life activists from Operation Rescue began targeting her facility. Instead of screaming at Norma, those intervening Christians primarily prayed and offered positive encouragement. They shined the light of truth and love where darkness seemed to prevail. What broke through her hardened heart was an 8-year-old girl named Emily Mackey who repeatedly told her, "Miss Norma, God loves you and so do I." That simple statement made her realize that she had never experienced such grace and love — totally unexpected and undeserved. It melted her heart.
That young girl reminds us that Jesus is the “Light of men [that] shines in the darkness.” -- John 1: 4-5! (To be continued…)

Lord, help me to be gracious while being a light for You.

DAILY STIR 1-31-22 "LET JESUS BE YOUR CARETAKER"

I Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon Him, (the Lord), for He cares for you. The Amplified Bible says, ”Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”

The Greek word for care is merimna, from meiro, “to divide” and noos -- “the mind". Think about that. To care or have merimna is to have a divided mind.

Isaiah 26:3: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Keep your mind stayed on Jesus; don’t have a divided or double mind.

James 1:8 says, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” Merimna denotes distractions, anxieties, burdens, and worries. It means to be anxious beforehand about daily life.

Matthew 6:27: Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? If this describes you or someone you know, then I’ve got good news for you! Such worry is unnecessary because God the Father provides for both our daily and our special needs.

Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, (don’t worry), but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God." The word anxious or worry in this verse is the Greek word merimnao, which means to divide into parts. It suggests a distraction and or a preoccupation with things causing anxiety, stress, and pressure. The answer to this is found in the supplication, which is more than just asking. It suggests an intensity of sincere and extended prayer, not to gain merit by many words, but to fully transfer the burden of one’s mind into God’s hands. Prayer and peace are closely connected. Being anxious and worrying is sin because you’re not trusting in the watchful care of your heavenly Father who is ever mindful of our daily needs. Your character and conduct begin in the mind. Our actions are affected by the things we dwell on in our thoughts.

In Philippians 4:8, Paul cautions us to concentrate on things that will result in right living and in God’s peace. So transfer those worries to God in prayer and leave them there, and let the peace of God that passes all understanding guard your heart and your mind from those worries! (Philippians 4:7)

Take your burdens, cares, and anxieties to the Lord and leave them there,

Chris

DAILY STIR 1-30-22 "STRONG FAITH"

In the area of faith, it's important for people to see from the Scriptures that God has not blessed one person with more faith than He has blessed someone else. People often see someone prospering according to the Word, whether in health, finances, family, and so forth, and they get the mistaken impression that God must have given that person more faith. So, the first thing I want you to know is this: Every believer has been given a measure—the same measure—of the God-kind of faith.

Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD."

Romans 12:3 says, "According as GOD HATH DEALT TO EVERY MAN the measure of faith."

You see, God gets everyone started off the same way. He doesn’t give one person more faith than He gives another. He gives to every man the measure of faith. Then your faith grows according to what you do with it. It’s up to you what you do with the measure of faith God has given you. This measure of faith can be increased. But you’re the one who increases it, not God.

Romans 10:17: Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

I Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. I have heard many well-meaning Christian people ask God to give them more faith. But that would be like asking a personal trainer to give you more muscles. You get more muscles by eating foods high in protein and working out the muscles you have. In the same way, you get more faith by feeding it on the Word of God and exercising it—or putting it into practice. You hear the Word and then act on it. You can't base your faith on what somebody else does any more than you can base your muscles on what somebody else lifts. Some have tried to imitate the faith of others and got in trouble. You wouldn't try to bench press 200 lbs. because you saw someone else do it, especially if you had never even bench pressed 100 lbs. If you have weak muscles, you need to get on protein and begin to work out. If you are weak in faith, you need to read God's Word and begin to exercise your faith--or put it into practice.

Romans 4:19-20 speaks of weak and strong faith. "And being not WEAK IN FAITH, he [Abraham] considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb." The very next verse speaks of strong faith. 20 "He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was STRONG IN FAITH, giving glory to God."

Don't stay weak in faith,

Chris

DAILY STIR 1-29-22 "OBEDIENCE DETERMINES LORDSHIP"

The first time the word "worship" is used in the Bible is in Genesis 22:5. This is the story where God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac on Mt. Moriah. It says, "And Abraham said to his young men, 'Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.'" Abraham didn’t have a guitar strapped to his back. They weren’t going up on the mountain to sing. Abraham was going up on the mountain out of obedience to God to sacrifice his son Isaac.

True worship is obedience to God. It is doing what God says, obeying His word. I use the example of my daughter Victoria coming up to me and telling me how much she loves me and how great a father I am. Then I say to her, "That’s great honey, I love you too, but could you go help your mother wash the dishes?" And Victoria, acting as if she never heard me, just keeps saying how wonderful I am and how much she loves me. So I say again, “Thank you Victoria, but could you go and help your mother in the kitchen?" And once again, as if she never heard me, she says, “But Dad, I love you so much!" She keeps telling me how wonderful I am, and how much she loves me, but I can’t get her to do what I ask. After that, I surely wouldn’t ask her to go mow the grass or to do anything else, because she never did the first thing I asked her to do.

Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me, you will obey what I command”. This may help some folks. If it seems you can’t get direction from God or you can’t hear Him speak, go back and do the last thing He told you to do and you’ll get back on track.

I Samuel 15:22: But Samuel replied, "What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”

To love Him is to obey Him,

Chris
