DAILY STIR 1-31-22 "LET JESUS BE YOUR CARETAKER"
I Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon Him, (the Lord), for He cares for you. The Amplified Bible says, ”Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”
The Greek word for care is merimna, from meiro, “to divide” and noos -- “the mind". Think about that. To care or have merimna is to have a divided mind.
Isaiah 26:3: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Keep your mind stayed on Jesus; don’t have a divided or double mind.
James 1:8 says, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” Merimna denotes distractions, anxieties, burdens, and worries. It means to be anxious beforehand about daily life.
Matthew 6:27: Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? If this describes you or someone you know, then I’ve got good news for you! Such worry is unnecessary because God the Father provides for both our daily and our special needs.
Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, (don’t worry), but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God." The word anxious or worry in this verse is the Greek word merimnao, which means to divide into parts. It suggests a distraction and or a preoccupation with things causing anxiety, stress, and pressure. The answer to this is found in the supplication, which is more than just asking. It suggests an intensity of sincere and extended prayer, not to gain merit by many words, but to fully transfer the burden of one’s mind into God’s hands. Prayer and peace are closely connected. Being anxious and worrying is sin because you’re not trusting in the watchful care of your heavenly Father who is ever mindful of our daily needs. Your character and conduct begin in the mind. Our actions are affected by the things we dwell on in our thoughts.
In Philippians 4:8, Paul cautions us to concentrate on things that will result in right living and in God’s peace. So transfer those worries to God in prayer and leave them there, and let the peace of God that passes all understanding guard your heart and your mind from those worries! (Philippians 4:7)
Take your burdens, cares, and anxieties to the Lord and leave them there,
Chris
