Vale Vikings Shine at State Tennis Tournament

The Vale Vikings made a strong statement at the OSAA State Tennis Championships this weekend at the Oregon State University Tennis Complex in Corvallis, competing toe-to-toe with Oregon’s powerhouse private school programs.

Ella Nieskens and Ellie Seals advanced to the semifinals with an impressive 6-3, 7-5 victory before finishing the tournament with a 4th-place state medal in girls doubles.

The Lady Vikings also finished 5th overall as a team,,, the highest placing public school in the girls tournament.

Other Viking state competitors battled hard against top-seeded opponents and deep private-school dominated brackets. Brystol Keller fell to the tournament’s No. 4 seed, while Eli Seals faced the No. 3 seed in boys singles. Doubles teams Janet Gonzalez/Megan Schoorl and Hazel McKrola/Marli Bennett both dropped tough matches.

Final girls team standings:

1. Marist Catholic
2. Catlin Gabel
3. St. Mary’s
4. Oregon Episcopal
5. Vale

Final boys team standings:

1. Oregon Episcopal
2. Catlin Gabel
3. St. Mary’s
4. Marist Catholic
5. Baker
12. Vale

Vale’s performance stood out in a tournament heavily dominated by private schools. Out of the four championship finals, no public schools were represented, and among all semifinalists statewide (girls singles, girls doubles, boys singles, boys doubles ) , only Vale and 4A Cascade were public schools.

Outstanding season, Vikings.

Thank you to Coach Randy Seals for providing information all season so the kids could be recognized.
