It's Halloween! So what better movie to highlight for SCREAM Your Enthusiasm than John Carptenter's horror classic, which kickstarted the slasher genre and also Jamie Lee Curtis. Kathy Biehl on this and adventures in babysitting for HiLobrow. https://www.hilobrow.com/2024/10/31/scream-9/

We went to see Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig's graves on Sunday - they're buried across the street from each other. You can see the difference in the two men just by this. The last time I went to Ruth's grave it smelled like stale beer and dive bar. Now it's been a lot more cleaned up and also no more Red Sox caps. Also, Lou Gehrig's birth date is wrong.

Our latest SCREAM is The Night of the Hunter, starring Robert Mitchum in his iconic role as a fake preacher with "LOVE" and "HATE" knuckles, in pursuit of his young step-children who know where a fortune is hidden. This Southern Gothic Horror draws on Brothers Grimm tales and has Mitchum up against a worthy foe in badass Lillian Gish, as revealed by Adam McGovern for HiLobrow. https://www.hilobrow.com/2024/10/18/scream-5/

I wrote this about St Patrick's Cemetery in Hibernia, NJ - high up (way high) on a hill, it's the final resting place of iron miners in a town that had been mostly Irish (hence Hibernia) to then Slovak. I even did some research as to who all is buried there.

(Yes that’s Scottish but there was a cemetery. And a Heather!)

I'm turning 50 tomorrow and I was wondering: What ad defines me? And it's clearly Charlie because I'm in kinda young kinda wow like Bobby Short and Shelly Hack. And I know saying that makes me sound young and wow.

"There's a fragrance that's here today and they call it… Charlie!". This is the well-known fragrance commercial with one of Charlie's Angels appearing as it'...

Chuck Connors--Brooklyn Dodger, Boston Celtic, The Rifleman, and star of one of the most terrifying horror movies I've ever loved, TOURIST TRAP, covered here in all its gory glory by Dean Haspiel for SCREAM Your Enthusiasm on HiLobrow. https://www.hilobrow.com/2024/10/05/scream-2/

It's been quite a week of ups and downs and it's only Wednesday. So relax with our first SCREAM article on THE SHINING, written by Crockett Doob. I told him he could just write "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" over and over, but he actually wrote a great piece instead. https://www.hilobrow.com/2024/10/02/scream-1/

We’re not afraid to put up our dukes

We may not have met before, so please allow me to make the introductions.

I’m a filmmaker from NYC who’s tackled topics ranging from the New York accent, to Citibikes, to the 1986 New York Mets.

I’m currently working on a series about hidden cemeteries called “Look Who’s Dead,” and one about those who work overnight called “Graveyard Shift.” If you sense an “Alas, poor Yorick,” theme, well, that’s just me. To counter this, I’m also working on a short about the name “Heather,” a topic of which I feel like something of an expert.

Thanks for coming! And don’t be shy – email me at my email address.- HQ
