What I witnessed this morning, August 28th, 2025, involving my cousin, was deeply distressing and fundamentally wrong.
As a member of the San Pasqual Reservation tribal community, it is heartbreaking for me to witness the removal and demolition of homes belonging to tribal members and/or descendants and their families. This issue has been a subject of controversy, sparking widespread anger and outrage among our community members. It is imperative that we address this issue and hold our Tribal Council accountable for their actions.
The recent actions of our Tribal Council to forcefully remove tribal descendants and their families from their homes and subsequently demolish them have left many of us in shock and disbelief. This is not only a violation of basic human rights but also contravenes the values and principles of our tribal community.
As descendants of those who have inhabited this land for generations, our families have a profound connection to our homes. They hold sentimental value and are a symbol of our identity and heritage. Removing them without proper consent and then demolishing them is a cruel act that cannot be justified. It is a blatant display of power and disregard for the well-being of our community members.
What is even more disheartening is the lack of empathy and consideration shown by our Tribal Council. It appears that they have lost touch with the very people they are supposed to represent and protect. As a community, we should stand together and demand accountability from our leaders. It is their responsibility to ensure the well-being of our community, not tear it apart.
At a time when the world is facing numerous challenges, it is essential for us to come together and support those in need. Our families should stick together and support each other, especially during difficult times. The Tribal Council should be leading by example and providing assistance to those in need, not exacerbating their suffering.
Furthermore, the actions of our Tribal Council have a ripple effect on the entire community. The demolition of homes not only leaves families homeless but also creates a sense of fear and insecurity among community members. It damages the trust and bond that holds our community together.
It is high time for our Tribal Council to re-evaluate their decisions and remember that their authority comes with the responsibility to serve the best interests of our community. We urge them to stop these unjust and inhumane actions and instead focus on helping and supporting those in need.
In conclusion, the removal and demolition of homes belonging to tribal descendants and their families by our Tribal Council is a violation of basic human rights and contravenes the values of our tribal community. It is our responsibility to hold our leaders accountable and demand that they act with compassion and empathy towards our community members. Let us unite and stand against these unjust actions and work towards a better and more inclusive future for our community.
I aspire to become the next Chairman of the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, where I can demonstrate the true meaning of tribal leadership by supporting and serving our tribal community.
