The national March not seasonally adjusted construction unemployment rate was 6.7 percent, a 1.3 percent increase from March 2025, according to a state-by-state analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics by Associated Builders and Contractors.

An ABC state-by-state analysis shows only two states had lower estimated unemployment rates compared to March 2025.

The production of steel in the 69 countries that report data to the Brussels-based World Steel Association dropped by 1.9 percent this April compared with April 2025.

Production at the world’s steel mills fell year on year and month on month this April, according to the World Steel Association.

The construction industry had 224,000 job openings on the last day of March, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.

Associated Builders and Contractors analysis shows construction hiring bounces back from historically low February, but remains extremely subdued.
