A very complex forecast ahead over the next 48 hours...

Our first significant snow of the season is set to take place Sunday lasting through Monday evening. But, for the rest of the night tonight, the rain will begin to transition over to all snow after midnight. Snow is already ongoing in South Bend & in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. By tomorrow morning a lake-effect snow band will begin to take shape, there will be a lull at some point during the day tomorrow here in NW Indiana.

As we go into tomorrow evening and especially tomorrow night, a significant lake-effect snow band will begin to take shape with snowfall rates of 2"+ an hour likely. Wherever that band sets up for long-periods of time you will likely measure the snow in feet, not inches. Still uncertain about how far that band will wobble west, it may impact the morning commute in downtown Chicago if it wobbles far enough west. Give yourself plenty of time Monday morning! I do not advice traveling from Chicago eastward into Indiana at all during the day on Monday. Travel will be difficult if not impossible under that lake-effect snowband.

SAY IT AIN'T SNOW! FIRST SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON THIS WEEKEND...

VUTV Weather Director Mason Gleva has an update regarding this weekend's snow potential, including our first snowfall map of the season! He times out the rain chance the second half of the day Saturday that will change over to snow Sunday morning, any snow that falls Saturday night will struggle to stick since the ground is so warm. After all we were in the 60s today! Snowfall amounts will vary heavily outside of the primary lake-effect snow bands. Areas that are stuck under the band for long periods of time will likely see 5"+, Laporte County looks to be the sweet spot for the event as of right now. We will have another update tomorrow regarding the latest on our first snowfall of the year.
