100 year old Orval H. Mullen participated in the Normandy D-Day invasion, the Battle of the Buldge and the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp, earning two Purple Hearts in the process. It was an honor to sit in on Orval telling stories that ranged from hilarious to heartbreaking. Much can be learned from his survival mindset and methods for overcoming the inevitable pain from witnessing such events. Great work by Thad Lichtensteiger, WERT Radio and my mentor, the incomparable Voice of Van Wert, Chris Roberts.

Please take a moment to experience this touching, 360 degree VR view of a children's feeding center in El Rejón, Guatemala. These children, many of whom are starving, walk miles to get their one meal of the day. The meal consists of rice, beans and a piece of chicken. Despite their hunger, many only eat a small portion, taking the rest home for their siblings or parents. Many times, I would notice a 10-12 year old girl acting as a mom to her smaller brothers and sisters. The orange streaks in their hair is a sign of malnutrition.

Today was tough. We visited a feeding center in Rejon that feeds hundreds of children every week. These children, many of whom are starving, walk miles to get their one meal of the day. The meal consists of rice, beans and a piece of chicken. Despite their hunger, many only eat a small portion, taking the rest home for their siblings or parents. Many times, I would notice a 10-12 year old girl acting as a mom to her smaller brothers and sisters. The orange streaks in their hair is a sign of malnutrition. Many of thildren of Casa Shalom Orphanage came from this very existence. @ El rejon Guatemala

In Guatemala for day 1 of filming No Longer Forgotten, telling the stories of the children of Casa Shalom Orphanage. I'm really smitten with this beautiful country, these beautiful people, amazing meals and good times we'll remember forever. So excited, I can't believe we haven't slept for 36 hours.

Just one of a million touching stories from the children Casa Shalom Orphanage. We can't wait to meet them and share their stories.

Today, this little guy parked himself on the hillside of Casa Shalom and began to make a design out of these mini pine cones we have everywhere. We asked him what he was making and he replied “a picture of my dad.” We worked hard to fight back tears as he told us that this part was his dad’s mustache, and here were his dad‘s feet, and even his dad’s big belly. See, this little guy, like so many of our children, does not know his dad. He does not know if his dad has a mustache, or a big belly, or even what his dad‘s name is or if he is alive. Yet his heart shows us through unscheduled, organic moments of play that he longs to know his father. And our hearts cries out to his Heavenly Father, that He may fill that daddy void in this boy’s life, and that He gives us at Casa Shalom the ability to unfailingly point him to his Heavenly Father.
