HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM PDT
WEDNESDAY...
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory, effective today and continuing through Wednesday.
The Vashon forecast predicts a high temperature in the eighties late this afternoon. It will be warmer tomorrow with the forecast into the low 90's. Warm weather will continue through the rest of the week. These conditions could be severe for vulnerable people who can’t find a way to escape this week’s high temperatures. Seniors and unsheltered homeless may be at particular risk.
Here are a few heat safety tips from the National Weather Service advisory.
- Avoid overexertion and stay hydrated. Heat stroke can occur even at these moderate heat levels.
- The moderate heat risk advisory applies especially to individuals sensitive to heat and those without access to cooling in their homes or adequate hydration.
- Give special attention to those at high risk from heat, including children, pregnant people, older adults, and those weakened by chronic health conditions.
- Never leave people or pets in a vehicle. Hot car deaths happen year-round, but especially during periods of elevated heat.
