PSA ~ VIGIL FOR RENEE NICOLE GOOD
Saturday 1PM
Indivisible Vashon is holding a vigil for Renee Nicole Good who was murdered by ICE in Minneapolis on Wednesday, 7 Jan.
This will start with a drop-in from 1:00-2:00pm at the Village Green shelter to talk about what happened and get training and information on how to report ICE.
This will be followed by a vigil at the 4-way stop (Bank and Vashon Hwy) starting at 2:00pm.
Please wear funeral black and bring signs of remembrance and anti-ICE.
Message from Janie Starr
"I see this vigil as a moment to both morn this blatant murder and to morn the murders/assaults/false arrests of activists and innocent by-standers and innocent (by which I mean all) immigrants just trying to live their lives in impossible circumstances. I grieve for everyone caught up in these vicious and illegal murderous assaults by ICE agents on behalf of the trump regime. I am sad and I am outraged.
To those who ask if protests matter, I say the protests represent a visual inspiration for those who walk by, for those who drive by, for those who wave and cheer and honk, and even for those who don’t agree. They serve as an opportunity to use our first amendment rights to witness on behalf of what we believe in and what we oppose.
As Jim Diers said, "combined with all the other protests, large and small, they represent a growing movement of forward thinking folks who care deeply about liberty justice, and peace." Showing up in community and taking action has the potential of moving us out of despair and fueling our determination to keep on keeping on.
I appreciate those who are asking this question, as I think it’s good for all of us to think about the meaning of what we do. Onward!
See y’all Saturday if you can be there. Please share this announcement, in your own words of course, with at least 5 others, strongly encouraging them to participate, and to continue sharing."
