Fun facts about Joey:

Meteorology degree obtained from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in May of 2021. Have been visiting Florida since I was a small child and had the pleasure of living in the state for approximately 3 years to finish my degree. Spent lots of time in Venice, FL as this is where my grandparents own a condo during the winter months. Nothing beats the community and the people

that live in Venice and it's an honor to be able to support and give back to the community utilizing my skills learned in Meteorology.

Saw a few mammatus clouds earlier this evening! โ˜๏ธ

While typically seen under severe storm cells, mammatus clouds can also form when high-altitude moisture from a distant weather system moves overhead. As the sun sets and the ground cools, this cold, dense air sinks into the drier air below, creating these distinct, pouch-like structures. The low angle of the evening sunset perfectly highlighted the cloud contours.

Have a great night!

Update to previous Storm Surge Pole Post:

Soo, clearly my post from last night has gone pretty viral reaching over 50k people. And I've been getting a lot of the same comments.

Where is Ian on that storm surge pole??

Well, to put it simply, Hurricane Ian made landfall on Ft. Myers beach which is far south of Venice as you should know. Then the storm moved inland and north-northwestward. So there simply wasn't any significant surge along our coast because winds were blowing offshore as the storm impacted the region. Ft. Myers beach on the other hand saw significant impacts from the storm surge as most of you should know.

So hopefully that clears things up a bit. Helene & Milton have been the most recent storms that have truly impacted the coast regarding storm surge.

Another thing I've been seeing are comments related to the county wasting money on these storm surge poles. I get it, you're entitled to that opinion, and I don't do politics on this page. The truth is since Milton & Helene devastated much of the coast, it's important to educate as many people as possible when it comes to living by the water which is a lot of people's "dream" someday. And unfortunately, that comes with problems when it comes to a land falling or not land falling storms. So even if these informational poles inform just one person & save 1 life, then I think they've paid for themselves.

Anyways hopefully all that makes some kind of sense. Most of you should know by now I don't post controversial things here for clicks/views. If you're looking for those kinds of posts just keep scrolling and I promise you'll find some! ๐Ÿ˜…

Have a great Saturday evening!

Finally had a chance to check out the new storm surge pole recently installed at the North Jetty in Nokomis. ๐ŸŒŠ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Overall, great information about storm surge and what it means during the hurricane season! Sarasota County Government did a great job!

Also, pretty cool to see the official markers from Helene & Milton. For the record I'm 5 feet 4 inches tall lol. Safe to say I would have drowned ๐Ÿ˜….

And of course caught one last sunset. ๐ŸŒ…

I say last because unfortunately I will be heading back to Upstate NY for awhile starting on Monday. So you guys already know how that works if you've been a long time follower. I'll be sure to update along the way back. I should arrive back there by Wednesday. There shouldn't be much of a conflict when it comes to my daily forecasts. Might miss a day or two of Marine/Beach forecasts, but we'll see.

Appreciate everyone's support since the lay off of my job. Not knowing what the future holds is weird, but also somewhat exciting at the same time. For the last 2 weeks I've been in talks with several local businesses where weather impacts their daily operations. If you or someone you know, knows a business that would like help navigating Southwest Florida's diverse weather environment, refer them over to my new informational page: https://vffws.com/weather-forecasting-consulting-services/

This kind of work is truly what I'm passionate about and believe I can truly bring value in. So aside from keeping y'all updated daily, that will be the next thing I spend a lot of time on over the next few months.

Once again thanks for everything, and I look forward to what's coming next! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿงก
