Bombshell revelation in the September issue of Racket Business. My Publisher's Notes reveal what Jon Wertheim touched on in Sports Illustrated, but no one really caught it:
The USTA laments that all those $65 Grounds Passes to the US Open were bought by Scalpers and resold for $300-500 PER DAY! They say there's nothing they can do to stop it.
In reality, they are making more money from scalpers because Ticketmaster is paying them a percentage of every one of those tickets. They have no reason to stop scalpers but very good reasons to keep it going! They are lying in your face!

If the USTA really cared about growing tennis, they would take the $800 million planned for upgrading the US Open, and give each of the approximately 800 DI, DII, and DIII college tennis programs 1 million.

The $800 million is the most self-serving investment in the history of US sports. It ensures that all national salaries, perks, and benefits, as well as all pay raises, will be covered.

It also enables them to pay the $67 million earmarked annually for all sections, which in turn enables them to pay salaries, perks, and benefits, as well as all pay raises.

The perfect tennis racket.
