If the USTA really cared about growing tennis, they would take the $800 million planned for upgrading the US Open, and give each of the approximately 800 DI, DII, and DIII college tennis programs 1 million.

The $800 million is the most self-serving investment in the history of US sports. It ensures that all national salaries, perks, and benefits, as well as all pay raises, will be covered.

It also enables them to pay the $67 million earmarked annually for all sections, which in turn enables them to pay salaries, perks, and benefits, as well as all pay raises.

The perfect tennis racket.

This month's "From inside the lines" in Racket Business: Tim Farthing writes, "The Entrepreneurial Boom in Racket Sports: An Industry in Its Own Industrial Revolution."
Tim writes that the racket sports industry is transitioning from a federation-led model to a market-driven one. Great analysis!

The racquet sports landscape is getting more crowded. With the launch of TYPTI, Steve Bellamy aims to capture the "casual, high -energy" market, but questions remain about its origins and how it fits into existing infrastructure.

In my latest Publisher's Notes, I analyze the business model, the "body save" rules, and whether the pickleball community is ready to share court space.

Check it out on Racket Business:

TYPTI represents another entry in the growing ecosystem of racquet sports designed to lower the barrier to entry and get more people onto a court.
