“Dragons breeze past Del Sol in season opener”

On Nov. 24, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball team defeated Del Sol High School (Del Sol) 57-13. In this season opener, the game featured standout performances from Bella Baum ‘26 and Jocelyn Morales ‘28.

“It’s nice to get a win like that on your season opener. The girls looked good tonight, they did a lot of stuff really well, played good defense. And then on the opposite side of the court, they shared the ball really well and executed a lot of the stuff that we’ve been working on,” Chuck Ferris, Foothill Tech’s head coach, said.

The game started with a run of 20 unanswered points by Foothill Tech. Baum and Morales began their night establishing their dominant presence in the paint, which led to easy layups.

“Celebrating 25 years of coffee and chaos: Girlmore Girls captures hearts once again”

Every year, as the air gets crisper, pumpkin spice invades and the leaves start changing, the unofficial Gilmore Girls rewatch season begins. While the arrival of fall brings pumpkin patches or oversized scarves to some people, for the majority, it is time to return to Stars Hollow for the 25th time.

Since the show’s original debut in 2000, its popularity has continued to grow exponentially. In honor of the production’s 25th anniversary, trending brands such as Cotton On and Owala launched limited-time merchandise based on the show, along with the cast and producers announcing the show’s documentary, “Drink Coffee, Talk Fast.”

“Foothill Tech’s Drama Department kills the production of “Murder on the Orient Express”

Piercing screams echoed through the night at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) as the Drama Department presented the play Murder on the Orient Express, along with an immersive dinner service catered by Presto Pasta, on Nov. 14, 15, 21, and 22. Two casts graced the stage, with Cast Agatha performing on Nov. 14 and 22 and Cast Christie performing on Nov. 15 and 21. Adapted from Agatha Christie’s classic mystery novel of the same title by playwright and author Ken Ludwig, the story features detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates the murder of businessman Samuel Ratchett, who was found stabbed to death in his compartment. Eight passengers on the Orient Express tell their sides of the tale as Poirot, played by Troy Braley ‘26 in Cast Agatha and Scarlett Palmieri ‘27 in Cast Christie, seeks out the convict.

“Gender divide in sports”

Throughout history, sports have been divided not only by skill or talent but also by gender. From female-dominated dance studios to male-dominated football fields, the division between sports through gender stereotypes is the root of many problematic views on athletics.

Since 7000 BC, sports have existed, as wrestling matches were documented on cave paintings in the Bayankhongor Province of Mongolia, dating back to the Neolithic Age. These first grapplers were depicted as men with a crowd of masculine figures surrounding them. Though grappling is just one sport, many other sports that are more prominent today came into existence soon after. From the ancient Greeks’ creation of gymnastics for military purposes to Ebenzer Cobb Morley‘s creation of modern soccer, one thing has become increasingly more apparent: a mix of cultural and physical stereotypes appeared to restrict women from any involvement in the development of sports.

“How are seniors handling the college application process and mental health?”

With both the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems’ application deadlines for the Fall 2026 semester looming eerily close, many Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) seniors experience the stress of the closing application windows.

According to last year’s admission records, the UC system received an estimated 205,158 first-year applications across its nine campuses, while the CSU system received slightly more, with 212,000 applications for the 2024-25 academic year.

“Foothill Tech reexamines FIRE’s academic and social support”

Throughout the 2025-26 school year, the freshman class of Foothill Technology High School, along with some students in the upper grades, has a shortened lunch period from Tuesday through Friday to allow them to attend Foothill Intervention, Reinforcement and Enrichment (FIRE). Foothill Tech was founded in the 2000-2001 school year, and FIRE came to the high school not long after that. A 30-minute period which takes place from 11:55 a.m. to 12:25 p.m., four days a week, FIRE offers students time to catch up on homework, ask teachers for academic support and receive tutoring from students who are FIRE mentors.

“Dragons contribute life saving donations at the biannual Vitalant blood drive”

On Nov. 18, Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) Bioscience Academy hosted the first biannual blood drive of the year with Vitalant, a national blood donation center. Foothill Tech students who were eligible for donation could contribute life-saving blood on campus in specially designed Vitalant buses, which would later be distributed and readily used in the community and local hospitals.

“Opinion: Ballet is prioritizing athleticism and tricks over art”

As modern-day ballet continuously develops, allowing new artistic choices, the standards and expectations for dancers grow with it. What was once considered a performing art is starting to become more of a sport. This gives recognition to the physical demands of ballet, but can also raise the expectations of a dancer’s ability.

Ballet was originally a type of dance formed in the Italian Renaissance courts in the 15th and 16th centuries. Later, the technique was further developed in France, moving it onto the stage and into the performing art we know today. The main purpose of ballet, after being developed by the French, was storytelling and communication of emotions through movement.

“Satire: ‘Tis the Season (for profit)”

As I walked into my local Target for a quick errand run on the night of Nov. 7, my retinas were stunned as they absorbed the red and green colors that illuminated the store in decorations and lights. Left and right, shelves were stocked with pillows, blankets, candies and trinkets, all sporting the same color combo.

This could only mean one thing: Christmas is upon us. Except … it wasn’t. It was Nov. 7. Halloween had been a mere seven days ago, and Thanksgiving was in 20. Yet, to my horror, an acoustic version of “Here Comes Santa Claus” began to shriek over the speakers, ringing in my ears despite my will.

“What happened to good crime drama?”

Throughout the 2000s, crime drama has been one of the most popular genres of TV drama shows. From “Dexter” to “Law & Order,” viewers are enthralled by the thrill of crimes, serial killers, and murder, but also by how the show and characters develop. However, when true crime – another popular topic – is incorporated into fictional dramas, it becomes a weird mix of real life and dramatized interpretation.

The “Monster” series on Netflix focuses on famous cases of serial killers and true crime, such as Jeffery Dahmer, the Menendez Brothers and, most recently, Ed Gein. However, the show is not a non-fiction documentary; instead, it takes the liberty of adding fictional elements in between facts from the cases.

“Local potters support Food Share and community in fourth annual Bowl of Thanks event”

Tables of hand-crafted ceramics and colorful pottery lined the Harbor Village sidewalk in Ventura, Calif., for the fourth annual Bowl of Thanks event organized by the Ventura County Potter’s Guild and Food Share of Ventura County (Food Share). From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend of Nov. 8-9, the event offered a variety of unique pottery pieces for purchase, made by local Ventura residents, alongside a fundraiser that raised thousands of dollars for Food Share. The support from the community and local artists was meaningful, given the pause of SNAP benefits amid the government shutdown.
