The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public of an ongoing "Jury Duty Scam" targeting community members.

How the Scam Works:

Scammers are calling individuals, falsely claiming to be from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. The caller often uses the name "Seth Copeland" and claims that Jury Duty has been missed and that a subpoena had been issued and it was never answered. At times they will use a "spoofed phone number", spoofing is where a fake caller ID (it may even appear as a local number or Oneida County) is used to attempt to trick you into answering, or confuse you.

They then may instruct the victim to immediately report to the Sheriff's Office to turn themselves in or send money, sometimes specifying payment apps such as Cash App, Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or providing a physical location for payment, and often become high pressure and demand that you make the decision immediately.

Important Facts to Remember:
* The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to demand payment, nor ask you to send money using payment apps.
* Fines are assessed and collected only through the Court system in the appropriate jurisdiction.
* Bail is paid directly at the booking department via cash, cashier's check, or bond, with proper identification in person at the Facility.
* The Sheriff’s Office Civil Division collects money for court-ordered civil judgments and income executions only as directed by a Court Order, and never through unsolicited phone calls.

What to Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call:
* Do NOT provide personal or financial information over the phone.
* Ask the caller for their name, contact number, and the address they are calling from.
* Tell them you need to verify their identity before continuing and that you will call them back.
* Report any suspicious calls to law enforcement by calling 315-736-0141. Wait until the end of the recording to speak with a dispatcher.

Stay Safe:
Scammers can sound convincing and may possess some of your personal details. Trust your instincts if something feels off, it probably is. Protect your information and verify before taking any action.

We received this today. Be careful with your accounts everyone!
We're reaching out because we've seen a rise in fraud attempts targeting business customers like you, and we want to make sure you know what to look for.

Here's what's happening: Fraudsters are calling businesses and posing as either Community Bank's Fraud or Wire Department. They claim they need to verify an ACH or wire transaction, then direct customers to a fake website that looks like our login page. If credentials are entered on that site, attackers use them to access accounts and initiate unauthorized payments.

These impersonators are convincing. They may provide fake callback numbers and case IDs, attempt to confirm transactions with the bank directly, try to reset your security tokens, or even claim that legitimate outreach from Community Bank is fraudulent to keep you from contacting us.

How to tell a real Community Bank call from a fake one:

We may contact you to verify a transaction, especially if you're sending funds to a new destination and may ask you to confirm the recipient, the amount, and that you've verified the payee's details.

However, we will never:

Ask for your password, PIN, or security token codes
Direct you to visit a link or external website to enter your credentials
If a caller asks for any of those things, it's not us.

How to protect yourself and your business:

If something about a call feels off, hang up. Then contact us directly using the number on our website or at the bottom of this email.
Never enter your login credentials through a link someone sends you by phone, text, or email. To access your account, go directly to cbna.com or use our mobile app.
Make sure your team knows about this scam. Forward this email to anyone in your organization who manages your banking or has login access.
Review your recent account activity. If you see anything you don't recognize, contact us right away.

Do not plug in USB drives that you find in parking lots, receive in the mail, or see in public places.

This is part of a scam called a “USB drop” or “plug-and-run” attack. Scammers leave infected USB drives in places like parking lots, gas stations, and libraries, or send them to homes and businesses. They hope someone will be curious or try to return the drive by plugging it into their computer.

If you plug in one of these drives, it could:

- Install harmful software (malware)
- Lock your files and demand money (ransomware)
- Steal your personal or financial information
- Allow criminals to access your computer

Some drives are made to look like they are from real companies.

Remember: if you didn’t buy it and don’t know where it came from, don’t plug it in.

If you find a USB drive, give it to law enforcement or throw it away safely.

If you think you have been targeted or scammed, contact your local law enforcement agency right away.

Stay alert and protect your information. Don’t let curiosity put you at risk.
