Teachers never quit teaching!

Former educator at South Ripley, Judi Geyman, enjoys reading to children at the Novel HeArts event held on Saturday, Aug. 16. She read her favorite children's book, “Corduroy” by Don Freeman. Geyman taught for 36 years before retiring in 2005 and has also been involved with Little Blessings Christian Preschool since before retirement.

Courthouse Open House held to showcase renovation

A ribbon cutting and open house was held at the Ripley County Courthouse, Versailles, on Saturday, August 16 to display the renovations that have been taking place since June 3, 2024. Pictured from left to right: Art Noel, project manager; Chris Schmaltz, former commissioner; Amy Copeland, auditor; Roger Gullion, commissioner; Rick Anderson, project coordinator; Jeff Volz, commissioner; Craig Herbert, maintenance supervisor; and cutting the ribbon are Peg Ehlers, Ripley County Council and Mark Horstman, commissioner. Also pictured, Caleb Kelly of Milan created the scales of justice display which can be found on the second floor of the courthouse where Ripley County Circuit Court is located. The scales of justice symbolize the need to weigh evidence and arguments from all sides of a case before reaching a decision.

New Marion Fire Department has good day for ride

The 2nd Annual New Marion Fire Department Side by Side and Jeep Ride was held on Saturday, August 16. Scott Meisberger led the ride that started at the fire department in New Marion with two stops at the Canaan Fire Department while cruising the countryside for nearly 50 miles before returning for a meal prepared by Rolling Pin Catering. There were around 70 units that registered for the ride in support of the New Marion Fire Department. -- see more in the August 19 Osgood Journal.

The Fourth Annual Sunman Health Fair was successful

The Sunman Community 4th annual Health Fair was held at the Sunman American Legion on Saturday, Aug. 16. It was another great success bringing awareness for all ages. New vendors this year and great information on health awareness for the community was given out for free. Batesville teen named 2025 Indiana Jersey Queen

Rhea Miller, age 19 of Batesville, took her 4-H passion and experience to the next level at the 2025 Indiana State Fair. She claimed the title for 2025 Indiana Jersey Queen. She is the daughter of Ryan Miller (Jody Sarringhaus) and Crystal (Daniel) Roark. Miller is a 2024 graduate of Batesville High School. Outdoor church services well attended

Elmer and Lois Powell had some comfortable seats to listen to Chad Schwering preach, settling their golfcart right behind the chairs and covered tent. You can see just how happy they were to be there for Sunday service. When asked what’s their favorite thing about going to church, Elmer gave a simple “Jesus!” Lois said she loved the feeling that she gets while she’s there. -- See more in the August 14 edition of the Versailles Republican!

SR announces baseball complex plans
