Bailey was shot and killed after a festival in Hermanville, Sheriff Edward Goods confirmed.
The sheriff said details about what led up to the gunfire are limited. It is not clear if Bailey was the intended target or what he was doing at the time of the shooting.

There is an elevated to significant threat for dangerous heat to continue today as heat index values approach 115 and actual air temperatures reach the 100 to 104 degree range. Heat exhaustion will be increasingly likely with prolonged outdoor activity, so continue to exercise caution, take plenty of breaks, and stay hydrated. Make sure relatives and neighbors have a cool place to stay. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Interiors of vehicles will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

VWSD: We apologize for the inconvenience and short notice. Due to a loss of power and water at the Hinds campus, RCEC will have a 10:00 AM dismissal today. All CTE students will remain at their home high schools for the day. Student drivers may be dismissed as soon as a parent or guardian has been notified of the situation.
If students have after-school activities, please make arrangements for them to attend. If they are unable to attend, they will be excused.
We will keep you updated on the status of the building and will let you know as soon as we have more information.

Ashford Sanders, a Canton, Mississippi native, is advancing to the live rounds of Season 21 of “America’s Got Talent” after earning a unanimous four-yes vote from the show’s judges during auditions.

His live show appearance is scheduled for Aug. 18.

ESCAPEE NOW IN CUSTODY

UPDATE 4:40 PM: The suspect, Shannon Morris, Jr., is still believed to be in the area.

He is now wearing what appears to be a dark gray or black T-shirt, dark jogging pants, white-and-black athletic shoes and white boxer shorts.

Anyone who sees him should call 911. Do not approach.

UPDATE 1PM: Law enforcement officers continue to search the area near Love's Truck Stop and surrounding areas.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and white boxer shorts.

The Madison Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, East Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office, Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office, Tallulah Police Department and Delta Marshals Office are involved in the search.

Residents are urged to use caution. Anyone who sees the suspect or notices suspicious activity should call 911. Do not approach.

ESCAPED INMATE

An inmate escaped from a Riverbend transport van at Love’s Travel Stop in Tallulah at about 4:12 a.m. Tuesday.

The inmate is believed to remain in the area. The Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are on the scene.

Anyone who sees the inmate or notices suspicious activity should call 911. Do not approach the individual.

This message is from the City Water Department. A contractor has damaged a water line near the intersection of Crawford and Locust Streets. Customers in the area may experience loss of water pressure. Estimated time of repair is 5:00 PM.

An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for our area today from 10 AM until 9 PM. Today's high is 98 with a heat index near 111! Tomorrow a high of 98 with a heat index near 113!

This is a message from the City Water Department. Crews are repairing a water main in the 1500 block of Cherry Street. This will result in a water outage for some customers in that area. There is no estimate on the duration of the repairs. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience.
