🔤Font choice and why it matters
Marco Rubio decided to swap all the fonts in the State Department from the sans-serif Calibri to Times New Roman. I usually don’t get involved in politics (on here anyway), but this is technically in my lane, as far as font choice goes.
Choosing the right font is essential, and the key reason to opt for a font like Calibri is its readability, especially for screen readers and individuals with dyslexia. If you’re not well-versed in typefaces, let me shed some light!
Serif fonts, which include styles like Times New Roman, Garamond, and Georgia, have those decorative strokes on them. While traditional serif fonts can be trickier for screen readers, they have historically been used in materials like books and newspapers.
🤓My broader design point is about setting the right tone for your brand or campaign. Some fonts to avoid (Dear God) include Comic Sans, Papyrus, Curlz MT, Brush Script, and Impact, among others.
I’m really enthusiastic about fonts because they do impact my work. They also influence both print and digital materials. It’s important to consider fonts that are easy to read for everyone, regardless of age or ability. It's important to understand the audience.
What is your favorite font these days? Do you like Rubio’s font change?
