🌎 Young minds can create BIG change.

We’re celebrating one of Vienna’s own! 🌱

At just 16 years old, Stella Hong of Vienna, Virginia, has been named a 2026 International Young Eco-Hero Award winner by Action For Nature.

🌱 About the Eco-Hero Awards

Action For Nature celebrates young environmental changemakers, ages 8 to 16, from around the world who are turning their ideas into real solutions for our planet. This year, just 16 young innovators received this international honor — and Stella is one of them! 👏

Stella was recognized for HydroHarvest, a low-cost hydroponic grow kit made from donated restaurant buckets that allows families to grow fresh produce at home using 90% less water and no electricity.

Her story is a powerful reminder that age doesn’t determine the size of the impact you can make.

We couldn’t be prouder to see a young innovator from our community thinking creatively, caring for our planet, and representing Vienna among young changemakers from around the world.

Congratulations, Stella! Keep growing, innovating and inspiring. 💚🌎

🌟 From Global Journeys to Local Impact

This month, Vienna Living is proud to feature Akram Aleahmad, manager of United Bank’s Vienna branch, whose remarkable journey has taken her from Iran to England, across the United States, and ultimately to the heart of the Vienna community.

Her story is one of resilience, purpose, and connection. After nearly three decades in banking, Akram chose to return to what she believes banking should be about: relationships, knowing your clients, supporting local families, and being part of the community you serve.

But her story extends far beyond banking. From her leadership with local organizations to her love of painting, music, travel, family, and her annual Camino de Santiago journeys, Akram brings a global perspective and a deeply personal commitment to everything she does.

💬 “Vienna is one of the few places that still has a true township feel. People know each other, they shop locally, and they support one another.”

Some stories aren’t defined by where they begin.

They’re defined by where they choose to stay.

After careers that took them around the world, decades of public service, raising five children, welcoming eight grandchildren, and celebrating 40 years of marriage, Paula and Michael found that the place they proudly call home is right here in Vienna.

Their story is one of resilience, purpose, family, and community—a reminder that the strongest neighborhoods are built by people who choose to give back every single day.

From the W&OD Trail to downtown Vienna, from public service to small business ownership, their journey reflects everything that makes this community so special.

What can a community accomplish in just two hours?

✨ 17,000 meals.

That was the incredible impact of this year’s Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event, hosted by the South Asian Youth Volunteer Association (SAYVA) at the Vienna Community Center.

Volunteers of all ages came together with one shared purpose: to help families facing food insecurity around the world. Working side by side, they measured, packed, sealed, and boxed thousands of nutritious meals—proving that small acts of service, multiplied by many hands, can create extraordinary change.

This inspiring tradition is made possible through the dedication of SAYVA, generous sponsors, and community fundraising efforts, including their annual Diwali celebration. Together, they continue to demonstrate the power of compassion, service, and unity.

At Vienna Living, we’re proud to highlight the people and organizations making a meaningful difference—both within our community and far beyond it.

💙 Swipe through to see how one afternoon of volunteering became 17,000 reasons for hope.
