Nearly 10 percent of the MTFs failed to adhere to prescription length limits, according to the DoD IG report. Some prescriptions were filled for up to a year’s supply of Schedule II drugs like Adderall and Ritalin that have a high potential for abuse and dependence.

The veterans estimates translate into roughly 500,000 individuals looking — but unable to find — steady employment last month. About 9.2 million veterans are in the American workforce today.

The unemployment rate for all veterans in April was 5.2 percent, up slightly from March.
