Tama Press

Tama Press letterpress and relief printed paper products, handmade books, custom work and more! Welcome to Tama Press and thank you so much for visiting!

I love making things by hand - I've done it since I was a little kid (my parents have the videos to prove it!) I especially enjoy creating things people will use on a day to day basis, such as note cards and books. While studying in college, I was introduced to the worlds of printmaking and book arts. The organized process of printmaking – from designing and hand carving blocks to proofing and pri

nting the final pieces – is a challenging and fulfilling experience for me. Patience and my fervent attention to detail attracted me to printing. Time, effort, and care put into each print are reflected in the uncompromising quality of this hands-on art form. In addition to linoleum block relief printing, I also enjoy letterpress printing! I'm thrilled with the quality and beauty of this type of printing - the impression of a letterpress printed image gives depth and a luxurious feel to the finished pieces. While e-mail and e-books are extremely convenient, I still love the writing in a journal and receiving hand written letters in the mail. I learned to make books from start to finish - cutting book board, choosing book cloth and decorative paper, sewing pages, and attaching covers. I maintain a strong connection to my love of Japan through my handmade books, many of which have a traditional Japanese binding. The Japanese ceramic artist I studied under focused on the beauty of a perfectly crafted, yet useful object. I strive to demonstrate that an object used every day, such as a book, can be elevated to a higher level of beauty and appreciation through the experienced touch of an artist.

Just completed my submission for the Trekell 2025 Pet Portrait Competition!

This handsome boy is our spunky boy Vito, who passed over the rainbow bridge three years ago. He was a terror as a puppy - we adopted him from a puppy rescue and had no idea what we were getting into 😬 I could write a book “oh the things Vito ate…” He was such a joy and a good boy ❤️

I’m a bit late posting as I had a bunch of family & school stuff take over day to day life this month.

I had the BEST time at the Conway Art Walk! I met lots of lovely customers and artists, even a few printmakers. The weather cooled down to below 90 too. 😆 I hope to participate again soon!

Thank you to the hard working team of the who organized this amazing event!

This is Z for zen garden - in Japanese translates to meditation. We often associate calm and peace with the word.

I do not have a green thumb, nor do I desire to have one right now. I have too many other things to keep alive and they are much louder than plants. 😆

As I looked through my photos of different we visited, I loved the peaceful settings and well planned beauty. All of the seasons are taken into consideration - even the color changes of the leaves are planned into the .

X is for the Japanese “no” gesture! 🙅🏻‍♀️ - in Japan, crossing your arms in an X is a polite, visual way to say “no” - no words needed! We often saw this during our travels after the realization of an immense language barrier 🤣

Since I love to avoid drawing people, I tried playing with saying . I chose some of my kids’ favorites over the years.

I transferred the image by hand with carbon paper and then set to carving out details with an x-acto knife.
