Carson Cruz: Learning Life’s Fast Lessons on the Dirt Track

At just 12 years old, Carson Cruz is already building a racing career most kids only dream about. Driving a 250 Wing Kart, Carson has discovered that speed isn’t the only thing that matters—it’s about family, learning, and having fun along the way.

Carson’s racing journey began thanks to a little inspiration from his Grandpa Ray. When Grandpa mentioned that a new track was coming to Colona, Illinois, it sparked an idea that quickly turned into a passion. ā€œMy dad has always been into fast cars and engines,ā€ Carson shares. ā€œSo it was something we could do together.ā€ That shared love of motorsports soon became a family bond, with Carson’s dad stepping into the role of teacher and crew chief. ā€œMy dad has been the most help,ā€ Carson says. ā€œHe has taught me almost everything I know about our karts and everything it takes to keep it on the track.ā€

Over the years, Carson has collected memories and lessons in equal measure. One of his most unforgettable moments happened in 2024, when he rolled his Box Stock kart at Exit 7 Motorsports Park. Instead of letting the crash shake him, Carson used it as a learning experience. ā€œSomething I’ve learned so far is to think smart on and off the track,ā€ he explains. ā€œEach race is different, and it takes quick thinking to make the right move.ā€

While many see racing as all about trophies and checkered flags, Carson has a different perspective. ā€œRacing isn’t all about winning,ā€ he says. ā€œIt’s a great way to have fun, meet awesome people, and do something fun with your family.ā€ For Carson, every lap is a chance to grow as a driver and a person. And with his passion and attitude, there’s no telling how far he’ll go—whether that’s sticking with karts or moving on to even bigger cars someday.

One thing is certain: Carson Cruz is proof that racing is about much more than speed. It’s about the people you meet, the challenges you overcome, and the lessons you learn at every turn.

Rising Star: Logan Smith’s Journey from the Grandstands to the Sport Mod

At just 15 years old, Logan Smith is proving that passion, patience, and a love for the sport can take you far beyond your wildest childhood dreams.

Logan’s journey into racing began like many young racers—with a spark ignited in the grandstands. As a kid, he would tag along with his dad to the track, where they helped his dad’s friend, Jared Coppejans, wrench on the race cars. Those nights under the lights and in the pits left a lasting impression. ā€œAt that moment I knew I wanted to jump into a race car,ā€ Logan recalls.

Since then, Logan’s family has been the backbone of his racing career. ā€œMy dad has helped me the most, and I’ve also had a lot of support from my grandparents,ā€ he says. That encouragement fueled him through every milestone—especially his favorite memory so far: winning the track championship at Exit 7 Motorsports Park in his Box Stock kart. Another unforgettable moment was strapping into a ā€œbig carā€ for the very first time, a step up he’d been dreaming about for years.

Racing has taught Logan plenty, but if there’s one lesson he carries with him every lap, it’s patience. ā€œPatience is key to most things, and you need it when you’re racing,ā€ he explains. It’s a mindset that’s as important in the Sport Mod ranks as it was in karts.

When asked what advice he would share with anyone thinking about getting behind the wheel, Logan keeps it simple but meaningful: ā€œGo out there, have fun, and don’t be scared to try it. If you’re having fun doing it, stay with racing. It’s all about having fun and a good time.ā€

With that outlook and the talent to match, Logan Smith is on track for an exciting future in motorsports—one lap, one lesson, and one victory at a time.

Charlotte Ann: Racing Her Way to the Top at Just 10 Years Old

At only 10 years old, Charlotte Ann has already built a racing career that many grown drivers would envy. Now in her fifth year behind the wheel, she’s proven that determination, focus, and a love for the sport can take you far—no matter how young you are.

Charlotte’s journey into racing started before she could even remember. ā€œI’ve been at the dirt and drag track since I was a baby,ā€ she says. Early on, she watched her friend’s brother compete and quickly found role models in fellow racers Adrianna Timmerman and Skyler Swan. Seeing girls like her on the track sparked something inside her. ā€œI knew that I could do it because I love it,ā€ she recalls.

With a strong support system behind her, Charlotte has been able to chase her dreams. Her mom and dad, great-grandma and grandpa, and her entire family have been by her side every step of the way. Her sponsors—the Garcia Family, ProTech Pest Service, The Body Shop, Smith Family Farms, Hammertime Graphics (who keep her car looking awesome), Cruz Racing, American Legion Post 1233 in Colona, Illinois, and Navy Seabees NMCB-25—have all played a part in making her racing goals possible.

One of Charlotte’s proudest moments so far was winning the 2023 season points championship, an achievement made even sweeter because her teammate, Carson Cruz, won his championship at the same time. It’s a memory she’ll never forget.

Through her years of racing, Charlotte has learned lessons that go way beyond the track. ā€œI’ve learned to be patient and to focus,ā€ she says. ā€œDon’t push it—let them make the mistakes and take advantage of that.ā€

While racing is her biggest passion, Charlotte is already thinking about her future. If racing doesn’t turn into a full-time career, she has another dream she’s just as excited about: joining the military to serve her country.

And for other kids who are thinking about racing, Charlotte has words of encouragement: ā€œAlways remember that it’s just for fun. You’re not gonna win every day, but just keep driving. Be patient and focus, hit your marks, and let the car come to you.ā€

With that kind of perspective and dedication, Charlotte Ann is sure to keep making headlines—and inspiring young racers everywhere.

Hudson Seckler: Racing with Respect and Heart

At just 12 years old, Hudson Seckler is already turning heads as an unrestricted box stock kart racer with a passion well beyond his years. But Hudson’s journey to the track wasn’t exactly a straight shot.

Long before he climbed into a kart, Hudson was trying out other ways to go fast—like racing BMX bikes starting at age seven. But despite his early efforts on two wheels, something about it never quite clicked. That all changed the night he and his dad went to watch their cousin, Brad Wood, and Brad’s sons compete in flat karts.

From the moment Hudson saw the karts in action, he knew exactly where he belonged. ā€œI knew I wanted to race karts too,ā€ he says. With his dad’s own background in racing and the steady encouragement of Brad and his grandparents, Hudson found the support system every young racer needs.

Since then, he’s racked up memorable moments on the track, but two stand out above the rest. One was taking his first feature win at The Clash at the Coliseum in St. Louis—a milestone every racer dreams of. The other came at the big summer national race in Viola in 2023, where Hudson proved himself against some of the toughest competition he’d faced so far.

But winning isn’t the only lesson karting has offered. Racing has taught Hudson to keep his mindset strong, no matter what. ā€œIt is really important to always keep a good attitude,ā€ he shares. ā€œEven if things don’t go well one time out on the track, I have to go out the next time and start fresh and leave any bad things that happened before behind.ā€

It’s a perspective many adults could learn from, and one he’s quick to pass on to other kids interested in racing. If there’s one thing he wants them to know, it’s this: ā€œAlways race others the way you want to be raced because your actions are a reflection of who you are on and off the track.ā€

Whether he’s celebrating a victory or handling a setback with maturity, Hudson Seckler is proving that in kart racing—and in life—character counts as much as checkered flags. And at just 12 years old, he’s only getting started.
