Eyes up…

JUST IN: In response to our Saturday solar flare, NOAA has issued a "Strong" (G3) Geomagnetic Storm Watch for late Monday into early Tuesday. At G3, the northern lights can become visible across mid-latitudes of the United States.

Each event is unique and much depends on exact timing of impact. Bottom line, sky watchers highlighted below should be on alert for auroras Monday night. Stay tuned!

Due to continued impacts from Canadian wildfire smoke, the current state-wide air quality advisory has been extended through Friday, Aug. 1, at noon.

Widespread Unhealthy (Red) AQI for PM2.5 is expected across Wisconsin on Thursday, with NowCast AQI values in the Very Unhealthy (Purple) category possible.

Sensitive groups: Consider rescheduling or moving all activities inside. Go inside if you have symptoms.

People with asthma: Follow your asthma action plan and keep quick-relief medicine handy.

People with heart disease: Symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, or unusual fatigue may indicate a serious problem. If you have any of these, contact your health care provider.

Everyone else: Keep outdoor activities shorter and less intense. Go inside if you have symptoms.

Conditions are expected to slowly improve beginning Friday. However, an AQI of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (Orange) to Unhealthy (Red) will remain possible through the weekend. Conditions will be reevaluated on a day-to-day basis throughout the weekend, including updates to the forecast and any associated Air Quality Advisories.

Stay tuned to the air quality forecast as conditions can change quickly during wildfire smoke events. Find more details on this advisory on the Wisconsin Air Quality Monitoring Data website: https://airquality.wi.gov/home/map
