Most of us know Michael Phelps.

But do you know the man who jumped onto subway tracks to save a stranger?

Or the pilot who calmly landed a passenger jet on the Hudson River?

What about the Supreme Court justice who broke barriers, the rover still exploring Mars, or the company that changed the future of spaceflight?

History isn't just about the past. It's about the people whose decisions, courage, and ideas continue to shape the world we're living in today.

That's what today's Road to 250 is all about.

What if the biggest obstacle in your life became the foundation for your greatest achievement?

At just 7 years old, Sonia Sotomayor was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Before most kids were worrying about homework, she was learning how to give herself insulin injections and manage a lifelong condition.

She didn't let that define her.

Years later, she became the first Hispanic Justice on the United States Supreme Court.

Her story is a reminder that our circumstances don't have to determine our future. The challenges we face can become the very things that shape our resilience, our character, and our purpose.

History isn't only about the milestones people reach.

It's about the determination it took to get there.

One of NASA's greatest achievements comes with a surprisingly heartwarming tradition.

NASA programmed the Curiosity Rover to sing "Happy Birthday" to itself every year.

Sometimes the smallest details tell the biggest stories.

What do Google, Michael Jordan, the Human Genome Project, Netflix, Pat Tillman, Stephen Siller, and the U.S. Women's Soccer Team all have in common?

They each changed America in their own way.

Some transformed technology. Some inspired us through sports. Some dedicated their lives to serving others. Others expanded what we thought was possible.

History isn't just about dates in a textbook. It's about the people and ideas that continue to shape the way we live today.

That's what today's Road to 250 episode is all about.

If you've got a few minutes today, I'd love for you to listen. You might discover a story you never knew, or hear a familiar one from a whole new perspective.

Think you know these stories?

Most people don't.

Google wasn't always called Google.

One of the greatest scientific achievements in history finished years ahead of schedule and under budget.

Both changed the world in ways that still affect your life today.

The best part?

Most of us use one every day and benefit from the other without ever knowing the story behind them.

History is full of moments like these, stories hiding in plain sight, waiting to be discovered.

Behind every great achievement is a way of thinking.

The Moon wasn't reached because someone was fearless.

Students weren't transformed because someone had all the answers.

Barriers weren't broken because success was guaranteed.

These people helped changed America through their actions. Their quotes remind us what guided them along the way.

History remembers what they accomplished.

Their words help us understand why they kept going.

Some of the most remarkable people in American history never became household names.

Today you'll meet a teacher who changed lives far beyond her classroom. A pitcher who refused to let one hand define him. Two women who helped redefine what was possible in space. An architect whose work changed skylines around the world. And the telescope that forever changed our view of the universe.

These aren't just history lessons.

They're stories about courage, perseverance, imagination, and the people who quietly changed the future.

DID YOU KNOW?

When the United States stunned the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics, the team wasn't made up of NHL superstars.

It was made up mostly of college players.

They faced a Soviet team that had dominated international hockey for years and was considered nearly unbeatable. Yet, through discipline, teamwork, and belief, they pulled off one of the greatest upsets in sports history.

It wasn't just a hockey game.

For millions of Americans, it became a reminder that determination can overcome impossible odds.

Some moments don't just make history, they change the way we see the world.

Today we're looking back at five stories that still have something to teach us:

-The Moon Landing
-Woodstock
-Apollo 13
-The First Email
-Roberto Clemente

Some are stories of incredible achievement. Others are reminders that courage, creativity, and character can leave a mark long after the moment has passed.

I always find it fascinating how one event can spark thousands of others that follow.

Listen to today's episodes and take a quick trip through the moments that helped shape America.
