Take Peetie Home for the Holidays!
Take Peetie home for the holidays at Norfolk SPCA Adoption Center & Veterinary Clinics 🐶
Peetie is a distinguished older gent at 8 years young. This guy is as sweet as they come. He is full of love. He is laid back, polite, and the perfect companion. He wants nothing more than to be right next to his favorite human. Poor Peetie has been bounced around a bit, to no fault of his own. Sometimes life just deals you a bad hand. Peetie is patiently awaiting his forever home and for his luck to change. Right now at Norfolk SPCA, adoption fees are half off so you can take Peetie home for the holidays!
Furry Friday is brought to you by Line-X of Chesapeake - Stephanie Taylor
Sparrow stopped by to visit for Furry Friday! She is up for adoption at Peninsula SPCA She is a 1-year-old beagle mix who was found as a stray. She's a bit timid and shy at first but very sweet and loving once she gets to know you. She just needs a little time to get adjusted to new people and environments. We don't know much about her history, including whether she gets along well with other dogs so if you have another dog in your home, you can bring them in for a meet and greet.
Sparrow does need to be spayed so if you're interested in adopting you can foster to adopt! Sparrow can settle into your home while she recovers from her surgery and then you can complete the adoption process.
Can't adopt but still want to help? Open your hearts and homes to fostering! Peninsula SPCA receives many pets that are too young or small, have health issues, or are too shy and scared to be adopted right away. We need you to be a foster care provider today! If you are interested in becoming a foster, please complete the foster care application.
You can also help the Peninsula decorate the shelter for the holidays! They are looking for new or gently used decorations, which you can drop off at the shelter on J. Clyde Morris Blvd.

Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center is at critical capacity. All dogs 50 lbs and over are just $10 this weekend and that includes our Furry Friday Pet of the Week Reba!
She is a gentle giant who was brought in as a stray. She is dog social and would be good in a home with older kids due to her size. We estimate her to be between 3 and 5 years old.
The shelter is full of dogs like Reba who need a home! Stop by and meet them today!

7 Year Old Shy Shibu Inu Seeks Calm Forever Home
Help our Furry Friday Pet of the Week find a home! Peaches is a 7-year-old Shibu Inu at Norfolk Animal Care Center who has been in and out of a few homes throughout her life and is naturally very cautious. She is a timid girl looking for a family that will give her lots of time to get to know them. She gets along well with other calm dogs and cats but a home with young children would probably overwhelm her.
As a senior pup, she is part of NACC's Golden Paws Senior Program. This program assists both senior shelter animals with placement into a new home and also gives senior adopters over the age of 65, an opportunity to adopt a new companion at reduced or no cost.
All senior pets over seven will have adoption fees reduced by more than 50% of the regular cost of $75 to $35. This reduced fee of $35 will also apply to any adoption by a senior adopter who is 65 or older.
Are you a senior adopting a senior pet? NACC will waive the entire adoption fee! How's that for some great motivation to come on down and find a mature, house-trained and well-behaved companion like Peaches?
Visit Peaches at 5585 Sabre Road, Norfolk, VA 23512 this weekend!
Thanks to Line-X of Chesapeake for sponsoring Furry Friday!

Meet Coraline: A Friendly and Loving Kitty with a Waived Adopted Fee at Chesapeake Animal Services!
Meet Coraline, our Furry Friday Pet of the Week from Line-X of Chesapeake.
Coraline is about 1 1/2 years old and was brought to Chesapeake Animal Services as a stray in June. She is super friendly and has such a loud purr! Be sure to watch until the end to hear it! She is FIV positive, which means she has a weakened immune system, but she can still live a long, normal life as an indoor-only kitty. It is not transferable to humans or dogs but it can be contacted by other cats.
Thanks to a guardian angel, her adoption fee is waived! She is already spayed too, so she's ready to go home today!
Chesapeake Animal Services also has a vaccine clinic on Oct. 21st at Chesapeake Square Mall, so you can bring your pets for $10 rabies vaccines!

Guinea Pigs Need a Home
Calling all Guinea pig lovers! Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center is full of Guinea pigs who need a home! This is Wolfenstein and he is an adult Guinea pig who loves to sploot in his hay.
Guinea pigs are incredibly gentle animals and can be a great animal companion for families, but they are a social species and social interaction with other compatible guinea pigs is beneficial to their health and welfare.
The good news is, with adoption fees at just $15, you can take two home today!
New animals should be carefully introduced and the staff at VBACAC will be happy to share more information with potential adopters.

BEWARE of the Grease Grinch
The way you prep, cook and clean up could keep a very unwelcome, very uninvited guest from showing up with his slick, greasy grin.
Yep, we’re talking about the Grease Grinch.
Whether you’re making big salads, or cooking burgers on the grill, with melted cheeses and ‘maters and avocado slices, or slicing veggies to be dipped into herby sauces, just be sure you’re keeping all the fats, oils and grease—not to mention peels, seeds and stems—out of the drain.
When they’re washed down the drain, that stuff tends to cling to pipe walls and build up, leading to a visit from your not-friend, the Grease Grinch. The clogs that form block the flow of wastewater and sewers, causing back-ups into your home, onto your neighborhood streets, down storm drains and into local waterways. 🤢
YUCK! What can you do?
🥑 Use a strainer to catch any food particles, then throw the scraps into your trash can or compost bin.
🍝 Scrape your plates directly into the trash or compost.
🥫 Pour grill grease into a can, cool it until it hardens, then toss it into the trash.
Keep your pipes nice and clean—and decidedly ungrinchy—this summer!
AVOID THE GREASE GRINCH!
