MESSAGE OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND THANKS
Conveyed By
His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
President of the Republic of Liberia
Compatriots,

I extend warm patriotic greetings to all Liberians, wherever you may be across our shared world.

We are all deeply moved by the overwhelming display of joy, unity, and nationalism that greeted this year’s commemoration of our Independence Anniversary. The record-setting enthusiasm witnessed across the country and in our diaspora (particularly across many cities in the United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, Egypt, and other parts of the world) is a resounding affirmation of our shared belief in the direction our beloved country is heading.

Again, I would like to thank each and every Liberian and our friends across the globe who, with genuine spontaneity and pride, have demonstrated such hope and renewed optimism for Liberia’s future.

As I watched the jubilant gatherings of Liberians worldwide, it became clear that these were not mere celebrations. They represented a profound expression of renewed faith, national pride, and a collective commitment to a new Liberia. What I saw and felt was the rekindling of our belief in what our country is capable of becoming.

Beyond the celebrations, ceremonies, and speeches, this year’s Independence Day carried a deeper message: that Liberians everywhere are united by a common dream—a dream of peace, dignity, and national renewal. From community gatherings across the country to jubilant celebrations among Liberians in the diaspora, your voices echoed with love for our homeland and a strong commitment to its progress.

As your President, I am deeply humbled to serve at this moment in our nation’s history. I do not pretend to have all the answers, and I acknowledge the challenges we face. But I remain firmly committed to leading with integrity, serving with responsibility, and dedicating myself to the path of renewal and sustainable development.

Together, we have endured great trials—and yet again, we are proving that the strength and resilience of the Liberian people remain unshakable.

This new chapter in our national journey demands greater unity and collective effort. Every Liberian has a role to play in shaping the Liberia we all desire—none more so than our brothers and sisters in the diaspora. Your skills, experiences, and resources are essential to our development.

That is why we have strengthened the Office of Diaspora Affairs and are moving forward with plans for the National Diaspora Conference this September in Washington, DC. This gathering will be a vital platform to ensure your voices are heard and integrated into Liberia’s long-term development agenda.

We are witnessing the rise of a new spirit of nationalism. The consciousness of our shared destiny is being awakened. We are gradually casting off the weight of past despair and replacing it with a forward-looking confidence. We are shedding off our trademark indifference and withdrawal and instead reengaging our fellow citizens, our communities and our nation. Indeed Liberia is rising, and this is our time.

Let us build on the gains we have made to date. Let us seize this moment with conviction and purpose. The weeks and months ahead must not be ordinary. They must be filled with deliberate actions that bring us closer to reconciliation, that strengthen our economy, and that bring dignity to every Liberian household.

I call on all Liberians to reconcile with one another, to seek out and create economic opportunities, to engage in entrepreneurship, to pursue alternative sources of income, and to strengthen their communities. This is how we will write the new story of Liberia, the story of a resilient, united, and prosperous nation admired across Africa and the world.

As I have pledged before, I reaffirm my Administration’s commitment to building a strong, inclusive nation that leaves no one behind, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or creed.

I extend special thanks to our brothers and sisters in the diaspora for their visible demonstration of love for the country. May God continue to bless and guide us as we journey together in peace, reconciliation, and shared responsibility.

As I mentioned in my Independence Day Message, I invite all of us to gather in our various places of worship on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, to offer prayers for the healing, reconciliation, and unity of our people and the protection and progress of our Republic.

Let us continue to Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia.

God bless us all.

STATEMENT BY
HONORABLE JEREMIAH KPAN KOUNG, SR. VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA AND HEAD OF DELEGATION TO THE UNFSS+4 SUMMIT
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
JULY 28, 2025

Your Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed,
Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia,
Honourable Heads of State and Government,
Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations,
Distinguished Delegates,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr, President of the Republic of Liberia and the people of Liberia, I extend warm greetings and profound appreciation to our gracious hosts, Ethiopia and Italy for convening this very important appraisal summit.

Four years after the inaugural United Nations Food Systems Summit, we convene once more to assess progress, recalibrate our strategies, and accelerate our collective journey toward sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems.

For Liberia, these systems transcend mere agricultural processes, they are engines of peace, platforms for equity, and pillars of national resilience.

Through our National Pathway for Food Systems Transformation, Liberia has prioritized three key areas:
- Nutrition-sensitive agriculture to combat stunting and malnutrition affecting our most vulnerable populations.
- Climate-smart agricultural practices developed in partnership with local farmers and cooperatives.
- Inclusive governance frameworks that meaningfully engage youth, women, and traditionally marginalized communities.

However, the true measure of this summit lies not in statistics, but in accountability. We must honestly ask ourselves:

Are our actions effectively addressing the hunger that breeds despair?

Are our systems reaching the communities where policy has historically fallen short?

Liberia recognizes that sustainable transformation requires robust regional cooperation!

We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the African Union's Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) and its strategic alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.

We also underscore the critical link between food security and peacebuilding, and this is particularly relevant for conflict-affected states and fragile states.

As we look toward the future, Liberia pledges continued support for the UN Food Systems agenda. We want to remember the United Nations Food System Summit not just for its declarations, but for its role in mobilizing transformative actions for food security.

Let us invest not only in agricultural yields, but also in sustainability, human dignity, resilience, and lasting transformation for future generations.

May the spirit of unity and shared purpose guide our deliberations toward meaningful outcomes.

Thank you.

Monrovia, Liberia — The Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) is pleased to announce August 4, 2025, as Citizens’ Appreciation Day, a special occasion dedicated to celebrating the courageous Liberians who stood up for justice during the historic July 17 “Enough is Enough” protest.

Despite threats, intimidation, and government attempts to silence dissent, thousands of Liberians rose in a powerful display of unity, demanding accountability, governance reform, and an end to impunity. STAND will host a national citizens’ gathering on August 4, 2025, at its Headquarters in Congo Town, Monrovia, to honor these patriots.
