Just a little chart I came up with to help anglers get a good start this fishing season. Tight lines everyone 🎣🤘🏼
1
Dark Green Squarebill (Red Eye)
✅ All-around, shallow/cover
✅ Edges, laydowns, docks
Mimics bluegill / perch. Medium retrieve, let it deflect.
2
Gold / Orange Squarebill
✅ Slightly stained water, pre-spawn → bluegill spawn
⚠️ Shallow stained edges
Flashy panfish/crawfish imitation. Crash into wood/rocks.
3
Bright Green Squarebill
✅ Mid-late May, aggressive bites
✅ Shallow backwaters / stained edges
Power-fishing, high visibility. Medium-fast retrieve.
4
Red Lipless Crankbait
✅ Early April, pre-spawn
⚠️ Grass flats / shallow pre-spawn
Crawfish imitation. Yo-yo or rip through grass. Pause for strikes.
5
Purple Squarebill
⚠️ Early morning / evening, shaded docks
❌ Not effective
Strong silhouette in low light. Slow-medium retrieve.
6
Blue/Purple Lipless
❌ Skip
⚠️ Only if active shad schools
Cold water (45–60°). Open water, yo-yo or steady retrieve.
