What are some things you've learned the hard way? Today I was thinking about that question many ask, "Can people change?" Some are too trusting and believe everyone can change, while others say once a cheater always a cheater. I believe people can change, but the catch is they have to want to change. And the other catch is most people don't truly want to change. You can do a thousand things to help someone, but you cannot change them. You can do everything for someone and it won't be enough if it's not the right person for you. If someone claims to have changed check out what their actions say. Do they help someone without any benefit to themselves? Do they do nice things even when they think nobody's watching? Are they making actual steps toward improvement or is it just words? So before you take back the ex who cheated or hit you, the friend that stole from you and slandered you, the neighbor that only comes over for money, the relative that stabbed you in the back, ect think about it. Odds are if they did something cruel and had zero consideration for your feelings then it will happen again. You can't force someone to have a kind heart or care. Forgiveness is different then allowing someone to continue to hurt you and your family. Sometimes you have to walk away
