For many keiki on Maui, the ocean is more than a place to play. It’s a place to find resilience, reconnection and healing. 🌊

Kahākūkahi Ocean Academy, known as KOA, is creating powerful experiences for young people through mentorship, ocean safety and hands-on environmental stewardship. From beach cleanups to cultural learning and quality time in the water, these experiences help keiki build confidence, strength (Koa) and a deeper bond with the ocean that surrounds us.

For some youth still carrying the emotional weight of the 2023 Lāhainā fires, programs like this offer something incredibly meaningful — movement, mentorship and a sense of belonging.

Recently, KOA brought keiki and community members together for a beach cleanup that was about more than caring for the shoreline. It was about caring for each other and raising the next generation of ocean stewards.
