TWIN BRIDGES | Beginning THIS Sunday night, August 23, at 7 p.m., TxDOT and its contractor will begin switching all SH 6 Twin Bridges traffic onto the northbound bridge.

TWIN BRIDGES | Beginning Sunday night, August 23, at 7 p.m., TxDOT and its contractor will begin switching all SH 6 Twin Bridges traffic onto the northbound bridge. By Saturday, August 29, traffic will be shifted to a two-way, two-lane configuration that will remain in place through fall 2027. This traffic pattern will allow crews to begin reconstruction of the new southbound bridge. Additionally, the southbound off-ramp to Midway Park and the northbound on-ramp past Fish Pond Road will be closed concurrently with the switch. Crews will temporarily close the north to south U-turn at the south end of the bridge the night of August 20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day to move equipment in preparation for the switch.

The traffic switch is part of TxDOT’s $114 million project to reconstruct and widen the SH 6 bridges over Lake Waco.

TRAFFIC DELAY - Update: All roads are open except a small portion of the service road on Franklin. Thank you for your patience!

Waco Fire is currently working on fixing a gas leak in the 5100 Block of Franklin Ave.

Roads are shut down on Franklin from Industrial to Schroeder Dr. and on Lake Air from Waco Dr. to Franklin. Due to the size of the leak you may see multiple police officers and fire fighters in the area.

Use an alternate route at this time while crews work to clear the scene. We will update here when the roads are clear.

TONIGHT: I-35 WACO SOUTH | TxDOT and its contractor plan to close all lanes on New Road at I-35 (eastbound, westbound, and the turnaround) on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 a.m., so crews can safely continue reconstruction of the new northbound I-35 bridge.

I-35 WACO SOUTH | TxDOT and its contractor plan to close all lanes on New Road at I-35 (eastbound, westbound, and the turnaround) on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 a.m., so crews can safely continue reconstruction of the new northbound I-35 bridge. Reminder, the underpass at Irving Lee Street/Primrose Drive remains closed for utility work in the area.
