As Ross winds down the weekly shows of I Hear America Singing, he reminds us of his favorite groups. Of course, he starts off with the group that introduced him as well as millions of people all over the world to Folk Music – The Kingston Trio. Also, their good friends the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem who kickstarted the Celtic Renaissance not only in America, but in their native Ireland as well. One of the Trio’s biggest influences was Pete Seeger and the Weavers – as Nick Reynold said “we used to do all of their songs.” Peter, Paul, and Mary was created to challenge the Kingston Trio’s dominance in the field and did so quite well. Thanks to Andy Griffith, the Dillards helped introduce Bluegrass music to millions of TV viewers. Ian and Sylvia introduced traditional Canadian folk songs to a wide American audience as well as songs written by themselves and their good friend Gordon Lightfoot. Denver-based Dakota Blonde continues in the tradition of PP&M, while Adler and Hearne harvest songs from their organic song farm outside Winnsboro, TX.

So join Ross for a tuneful hour either Saturday evening at 7:00 or Sunda night at 9:00

Every month, KWBU listeners meet to discuss a book originally reviewed in our Likely Stories segment. 📚 It's always a lively discussion and we hope you'll join us!

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is under fire for a plea deal his prosecutors offered last month to a Waco man charged with repeatedly s*xually abusing a young boy.

The judge in the case insisted on a 60-day jail sentence. The controversy has roiled Texas politics and led critics to question the attorney general's ability to adequately prosecute crime.

This week on I Hear America Singing, Ross shares American protest songs from the Colonial Days right up to today’s headlines.

Keith and Rusty McNeil kick things off with 'The Rich Lady Over the Sea' - a song about the taxes on tea that led to tea parties in Boston and other colonial ports. Bruce Springsteen wraps it up, following in Pete Seeger’s footsteps with 'Streets of Minneapolis'. In between, we hear from Big Bill Broonzy, Suzy Boggus, Richie Havens, Bob Gibson and Pete Seeger. Malvina Reynolds adds a cautionary tale about computers in 'The Little Mouse'. Bruce Macintosh claims that 'Seabrook is Glowing Tonight'.

Americans have found many subjects to protest about in song and action. Sample some of them with Ross either Saturday evening at 7:00 or Sunday night at 9:00.
