“[The start of the season has been] pretty good,” coach Chris Goodwin said. “It has been kind of a bumpy couple games, but we’re a Class AA team playing AAA teams, so it’s a lot different than last year when we were playing Class A and AA teams, so I think there’s some transition there.”

The Central football team is off to a strong start this season, despite a tougher schedule than last year.

Festivities begin Friday, Sept. 12, with the Nickle Dickle Eve Street Dance downtown. Saturday’s schedule features an arts and crafts fair, live music in the park, book sales and food from local restaurants and vendors in City Square Park.

The Waconia Chamber of Commerce will host the 64th annual Nickle Dickle Day on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Waconia.

The needs assessment will compile demographic information (where people are living and working), trip data (how people are moving), stakeholder engagement and input, and address potential transit solutions and alternatives, such as tailored or on-demand services, and designing services where they are needed most. The assessment report also will explore transit options through existing funding and potential future funding.

Most transportation activity in Carver County in recent years has been the construction of new roadways.

Marlin Hecksel started out in a small shop on his family’s farm west of Watertown doing welding and equipment repair for neighboring farmers. Sixty years later, Hecksel Machine, Inc. turns out water treatment system tanks and other fabricated equipment for customers as far away as Florida and Puerto Rico. The Watertown business, located at 609 Carter Street NE, is marking its 60th anniversary Sept. 5 with an open house from 3-7 p.m.

Zach Jacobs and Braeden Bates, both seniors from Mayer, landed a spot in the Minnesota High School muskie tournament in June fishing on Lake Waconia. This month, Aug. 8, they took second in that competition from among 14 teams fishing on Lake Vermillion in far northern Minnesota.

Two Mayer Lutheran students will have a big fish story to tell as they return to school this week.

The $1.4 million project, set to begin construction in September, will expand Emanuel’s ministry to young families by offering high-quality care and education for infants as young as six weeks through preschool-aged children. The facility is designed to serve up to 42 students, creating an important bridge from early childhood education into Emanuel Lutheran School’s established Kindergarten through 8th grade program.

Billed as Minnesota’s oldest consecutive celebration, Stiftungsfest — German for “Founders Day Celebration” — began in 1861 as a one-day gathering of a local German singing society. Over the decades, it has grown into a four-day festival that attracts about 10,000 visitors each year.

The community of Norwood Young America will once again link its past, present and future when it hosts the 164th annual Stiftungsfest on Aug. 21-24.
