You may have noticed red and white “No Data Center” signs throughout Norton. It's in opposition of a proposed data center called Project Triton planned for the 90-acre brownfield site on Limestone Drive in Norton, formerly a PPG property. The plan faces pushback due to its heavy water and energy demands, concerns it could drain wells and pollute waterways, and fears about noise and light pollution. Developers say it will use closed-loop cooling and gas turbines, but many residents say the environmental risks outweigh the benefits.

Wadsworth’s own Maggie Gerschutz is up for Akron-Area Girls Athlete of the Week. The standout cross-country runner clocked 18 minutes and 37 seconds to finish second at the Milt Place Festival in Medina. You can cast your vote for Maggie through Thursday at 5 p.m., with winners announced Friday morning.

The 7th grade football team plays Highland for the Suburban League title at 5:00 today.

Volleyball heads to Stow; varsity begins at 7 p.m.

In boys soccer, the Grizzlies game against Solon - originally set for tonight - has been rescheduled for Oct. 14.

In tournament play, the girls’ soccer team opens Oct. 21 at Brecksville; the boys host Cuyahoga Falls Oct. 22 at Art Wright Stadium.

Norton Elementary School students are giving back in a big way! They kicked off a sock drive on Friday for the Haven of Rest to help the homeless. At an assembly, Principal Brady Sackett even offered up the socks off his own feet! Students are collecting socks the entire month of October. One class has already collected more than 120 pairs!!
