Work has been completed on the S.D. Highway 37 and S.D. Highway 46 intersection lighting and signing project in Bon Homme County.

The project included the installation of an all-way stop, intersection lighting, pavement marking, and signing. This project was designed to improve traveler safety.

New signing and safety devices include stop ahead signs, flashing beacons, and transverse rumble strips.

The severe thunderstorm risk has increased across much of the region this evening and overnight with a Level 3 of 5 (Enhanced) risk for areas along and west of a line from Lake Andes to Mitchell to De Smet. For these areas, damaging wind gusts up to 75 mph are possible. Level 1 and 2 of 5 risks have been expanded east as well, including the I-29 corridor. Damaging wind gusts are also the primary threat farther east.

Storms are expected to first develop across central South Dakota this afternoon, moving into the Highway 281 corridor and the James River Valley after 9 pm. Storms are expected to gradually weaken as they move east towards the I-29 corridor after midnight.

Here is the approximate timing for thunderstorms tonight. The primary hazard of damaging wind gusts up to 75 mph will be maximized for areas along and west of a Lake Andes to Mitchell to De Smet line during the late evening. Winds are expected to gradually weaken as storms move farther east. Be ready to seek shelter if storms approach your area.

Storms are expected to develop in central South Dakota this afternoon, moving into the Highway 281 corridor and James River Valley this evening. The primary threat with these storms will be damaging winds up to 65 mph, with a secondary threat of hail to the size of half dollars. Storms are expected to weaken as they move east overnight. If you have outdoor plans this evening, especially west of Highway 81, stay weather aware and be prepared to seek shelter if storms approach.
