MEDIA RELEASE- ATTEMPTED MURDER SAUNDERS COUNTY
On December 24th, 2025 at approximately 1:05 p.m., the Saunders County 9-1-1 center received a call in regard to a shooting that occurred at 1149 County Road W (1/2 mile west of HWY 77 on County Road W) in Saunders County.
The initial information indicated that a male party suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Fremont Methodist Hospital by private vehicle. The victim and the victim’s wife identified the shooting suspect and advised they believed the suspect was still at the residence and was alone. The victim was later transferred by medical helicopter to UNMC in Omaha.
Upon arrival to the residence, deputies used drones to do surveillance and then used a drone to give verbal commands through a loudspeaker. After several commands and after significant amount of time, the male suspect identified as David D. Jurging (86 y/o) was taken into custody without incident at approximately 3:35 p.m.
Jurging was transported to Saunders County Corrections where he was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, and Tamper with Physical Evidence. He was left in custody of Saunders County Corrections.
The male victim who was identified as Patrick Dennehy (68 y/o) remains in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
