His girlfriend is named Luisa and her family is from Mexico, and I’d heard her speaking English with a bit of an accent when I came in, so I incorrectly assumed she spoke Spanish. She kinda went off on me about how not everyone speaks Spanish. And that as a white girl I don’t need to be speaking it. My brother later apologized and said it was a sore spot for her.

THEY'RE CHARGING ME RENT TO VISIT!

I'm fresh out of uni, 23, and living 150km away from my parents. I visit them once a month, but last time, they announced they're charging me rent for staying at THEIR house. Their reasoning? To teach me financial responsibility. I work as an intern, and money is tight enough as it is. To save money, I asked my childhood friend if I could crash at her place instead during my visits (we let each other crash all the time). My mom FLIPPED. They decided without much warning to start looking to buy us a house. By this I mean they want to buy a house my daughter and I will live in, but it will be in their names until my daughter is 18, then it's transferred to them. I am not involved at all, my name is on nothing. They want to mortgage it and have me make monthly payments to live there.

SHE HID HER LIVING FAMILY!

I (24F) met my husband in college; we married two years later. I've always had a decent relationship with his parents. The first Christmas, they asked about my family, and I said I didn't have one. Sort of true. I was the product of an affair. My mom, an addict, OD'd after I was born. My dad and his wife took me in, but I was treated horribly by everyone. Last week we were playing at a park and I gave my youngest cousin some mini oreos to share with her friends on the play ground. I later heard crying only to see my aunt dragging the 5 y/o towards my direction, apparently she was walking by the park when she saw her eating the oreos. Then she noticed the 12 y/o wearing glasses and absolutely lost it on me. Berating me on how I could go behind her back and feed her children trash food and cripple them by making them wear unnecessary things (glasses).

As I grew older, my mother would always say that it was my responsibility to take care of him when they pass away, to have him live with me so he will always have family and that I was born to take care of him. She would tell me I'm an angel for my brother, to help him in his life. I hated it, I had dreams of my own, goals I wanted to achieve, but my friends & parents told me I was being insensitive.
