Waking up 3 years sober (again) today. Things have been extremely difficult for me since the accident. I'm trapped in a state of constant pain and mental anguish.

That said, having done this before, I know there's nothing at the bottom of a bottle that can fix my problems. I'm grateful - even in great pain - to have a chance at another day on this sick rock.

Here's to another 24 hours in Hell!

Trauma isn’t one-size-fits-all.
It shows up in different forms, and understanding the type can help you understand your reactions with less shame.

Acute Trauma
A single overwhelming event.
Accidents, assaults, natural disasters, sudden loss.
The nervous system gets hit hard, fast.

Chronic Trauma
Ongoing exposure over time.
Repeated stress, long-term danger, or situations where relief never comes.
The body stays on alert because the threat doesn’t stop.

Complex Trauma
Multiple or prolonged traumatic experiences, often starting early in life.
Especially when harm comes from people who were supposed to provide safety.
This shapes how the nervous system learns trust, safety, and connection.

Systemic Trauma
Harm that comes from systems, institutions, or environments.
Discrimination, oppression, institutional betrayal, or repeated exposure to injustice.
The stress isn’t personal, but the impact on the body and mind is.

Different trauma types can overlap, too, so be patient with yourself on this healing journey.

The more people are stuck in survival mode, the easier it is for those in power to stay in control.
